Of all concepts procured by mankind, the most singular of them is death. It is not solitary in its impact, for death, above everything, is the largest possible outcome of the world. It overshadows love, it overshadows hate, it overshadows life. Instead, it is singular due to its nature. Death is an outcast. Death is one. Death is the loneliest existence that anyone, human or animal, can ever expect. For all extents and purposes, this should not be true. If death is so lonesome, just one fate in a haze of billions, then why is it so feared? Why do people care about something that is, in all definitions, small against the backdrop of a world condensed within a globe of technology and humankind? Is death a curse, a blessing, or any other combination? This planet has been developed to comfortably host humanity. Death has two options: avoid it, or embrace it. Death could be as easily tamed as life. Humans are capable of immense acts of destructive force, of stealing lives and reducing them to rubble. Death is only feared since it is the unknown. It represents the emptiness that comes after the last breath leaves the lung and the heart stops pumping. Above everything, the innate fear of separation and isolation is terrorizing. It shakes the body to the core, it chills the blood, it stops thinking. It is not death we fear, it is the result we do not fathom, and therefore dread. What happens after death? Will it be a biblical arena, with Purgatory serving as a waiting room for spirits anxiously awaiting passage into heaven? Will it be as the ancient Greeks envisioned it, with a ferry ride and a trial to determine which section of the Underworld your eternity would be spent in?
