In this paper I will argue that the key to the prevention of date rape is the proper education of men on the concept of consent. Educating men about consent is the solution to this problem because I want men to know how women would feel when or if they were to get raped, I want them to know that there are consequences for committing a crime like that, and I want them to understand that they need a woman to say “Yes” in order to engage in sexual activities.

This program helped men understand that it is not okay to rape, taught and increased the understanding of consent, and also how to help women that have been raped. This showed how men were taught more on the understanding of consent and how victims feel after being raped. Men need to understand how women feel after being raped and this study helped men understand that. Many people believe that men should not have to be trained not to rape. Some say that it should be common sense to them not to engage in sexual activities if a woman does not say yes. Tyson explains how in most rapes the perpetrator is known to the victim, often being a boyfriend or a date. In other cases of date rape women tend to blame themselves for getting raped by someone they know. The aim of the present study was to examine the impact of variables that may increase ambiguity on the attribution of responsibility and blame in date rape. The variables included in the study were the length of the relationship, the consumption of alcohol, and the sexual history of the female. The study used a vignette depicting non-consensual sexual behavior between a young man and young woman. After reading the vignette, 867 adolescents indicated their perceptions of the victim's and the perpetrator's responsibility and blame for the behavior. This shows how some men actually do not ask for consent and are not aware that they are crossing the line and show how men take advantages of trying to rape women while they are intoxicated or under the influence in general. Some men actually do ask for consent and that is a great thing. There needs to be more men out there that do this.
