Course Feedback EDNS 5030 Summer Session II Dr. Nickolson The last “assignment” for the course is an opportunity for you to share feedback with me on your learning throughout the course. 1. Please describe some of the ways you have grown or expanded your thinking as a result of this course. a. Are there things that you hope to do differently as a result of your studies in this course? This course has added another lens to my administrative perspective. I hope to be more conscious of the decisions I make for my students in the future. We must examine education through an equity lens. By applying the lens to every decision we make and learning to disintegrate the inequities. b. Are there ideas/practices/beliefs that you have had challenged by your learning? …show more content…
I have enjoyed reading both the text, links, and watching the videos in each module and I plan to apply my knowledge in the future. 2. Are there topics/issues/concepts that were addressed that you wish we would have had more time to explore? (Explain) The section on the effects of stress on the child’s brain is quite interesting to me. I would like to have had the opportunity to view more videos and information on this topic. 3. Are there topics/issues/concepts that we did not address that you would like to have explored in the course? (Explain) One topic I am interested in learning more about is how to reach the African American male population. Working in a low-income school, our biggest issue is reaching this population. I have researched a variety of mentor programs but am interesting in learning more about support programs that reach them at a younger age before the deficit is too large. 4. Please describe your experience using Canvas and the way the course was organized. a. Did you have trouble finding any of the content? No, when and if the links were broken, the instructor made an announcement in a timely
I’m convinced that much learning has occurred in this course, both on your part and on mine. So I’m most interested in your telling me what you have learned, rather than asking questions on this exam that require you to demonstrate your learning. So, look back over the course and compose a page each on what you have learned about each of these course objectives.
Luigie Olmos Instructor: Danielle Panto English 105 November 28, 2016 Reaching For A Better Education Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (2016). Mandela’s says that education is very powerful, you can use education to change the world or your life. This means that education is important in life and we all need a good education to succeed in life. In our society education is failing because schools demand too much for a great career. For example, schools take too much time to graduate and after we finish school there is no guaranteed employment. Therefore, students are dropping out of school and are going to the workforce or military. We could make education better for students
Without a doubt the lessons and exercises on time management were the most meaningful to me. They brought insight into why I seemed to be constantly working yet still never really got anything I wanted to accomplish throughout the day finished. I realized the majority of the activities I had been spending the most time on didn’t reflect my values of hard work and self discipline and long term academic goals to be successful in college. This motivated to completely change the way I managed my time by effectively striking a balance between my maintenance, committed, and free time.
To conclude, I have enjoyed this course very much. I think I may have benefited personally by taking this course at this point in my career path with Hope. I understand why it’s the first course in the program, but for me starting the third semester, I have had some background and instead of this course wetting my appetite, I was able to dine on the content.
1) What area of course content do you believe will be the most useful in your professional career? Why do you believe this? How do you think you think this will be useful?
Throughout this course, I have learned many things about business and things that have help me decided what career choice that I want to have. I have further decided that business was something that I do not want to do. I do enjoy business a lot, but I have found out that I want to be in education more. All the readings we had and all the faculty still intrigued me in class. I had interest in a lot of things we talked about throughout this course. I felt it was a very knowledgeable course to take coming in thinking about being a b usiness major. It has helped me decide what I want to do exactly with my life now.
Overall, I have learned a lot from this class. I must say there are topics that I am still confused about but only because I am just know understanding life from a different perspective. I am more open to now ask questions about things that I am not used to or even brought up around. For example, sexual libertarianism has views that sex is one of woman greatest power while I was thought that the vagina is one of women greatest power. I guess they both work together in sense of showing that women have a lot of
While taking this course I have learned so much about myself, mainly pertaining to my own personality. I have learned what my stressors are in life and how I tend to cope with these stressors. Being able to understand my own personality structures and how they affect how I think, feel, and behave has been extremely beneficial. I have also learned that I should not be so hard on myself because no one is perfect, and everyone has areas where improvements are needed. Learning exactly where my improvements are needed and how I can improve those imperfections will be extremely helpful for my future in order to grow as an individual.
This course has helped me in many ways, especially time management, health, and money. Instead of having a very relaxing week and then panicking at the end of the week when everything is due, this course has helped me to plan out my studies. Planning them out helps me produce higher quality work and assists me with my stress problem. One thing that has helped a lot is getting short easy assignments or parts of assignments done in short periods of extra time I have. For example, instead of turning on that TV, wait ten minutes and knock out an assignment. Another asset for myself has been setting dates to have assignments done. Although these assignments may not be due on that day, getting them done and out of the way, makes more time for other
Before I start my final paper I would like to first take a minute and say that a lot of this class was review of different courses I have already taken. There are also different areas of the course that I am very familiar with because of personal experiences. However, there were a few areas that were very new to me and honestly helped me understand pervious classes. With that being said I with first talk about the teaching or instructional methods.
With this course, I have learned more about other religions without the stereotypes that were fed to me by media and opinions of the majority. One of the most important things I have learned about other religions is that each one has a unique core belief system that centers on caring for others. In addition, I have also learned some outdated traditions continue even though laws have changed. This is in relation to Hinduism and the widows who are considered an outcast to their society and are left to fend for themselves with no support or family. I am going to continue to research this abandoned population of India and why the law has not been recognized by the Hindu culture. I have learned to really look at other music and art not familiar to
It made me realize how much my view about teaching and learning is limited as I base myself a lot on my own experience as a student. While reflecting, I discovered more about myself but I also found myself contradicting and having mixed feeling about certain topics. And I think this is to remind me once again the complexity of our world; not everything is black or white and sometimes it 's just matter of perspective. I learned from this course that many conflicts exist in the society we live in. As I was the reading articles in this course, I learned that the goal of reading about social issues is not only to be aware of social injustice but being able to reflect upon
On reflection, my biggest disappointment in these ten weeks on the course was my performance on the presentation. I failed to present my topic as compared to my colleagues and hope to prepare well next time faced with such situation.
I found this class interesting, being it wasn’t just about reading about boring topics. I also found ways to draw myself in assignments when I could to help me complete them. I am a bit sad that there weren’t many classes were we could share our opinions more. But, in the end the experience was good and I learned a lot.
In this course I experienced an important change in my beliefs about teaching; I came to understand that there are many different theories and methods that can be tailored to suit the teacher and the needs of the student. The readings, especially those from Lyons, G., Ford, M., & Arthur-Kelly, M. (2011), Groundwater-Smith, S., Ewing, R., & Le Cornu, R. (2007), and Whitton, D., Barker, K., Nosworthy, M., Sinclair, C., Nanlohy, P. (2010), have helped me to understand this in particular. In composing my essay about teaching methods and other themes, my learning was solidified, my knowledge deepened by my research and my writing skills honed.
