Throughout this course, I have learned many things about business and things that have help me decided what career choice that I want to have. I have further decided that business was something that I do not want to do. I do enjoy business a lot, but I have found out that I want to be in education more. All the readings we had and all the faculty still intrigued me in class. I had interest in a lot of things we talked about throughout this course. I felt it was a very knowledgeable course to take coming in thinking about being a b usiness major. It has helped me decide what I want to do exactly with my life now.
I wanted to be in business to start because it is something that I always have been interested in. It is still something that I am

It gave me a low down on how each discipline works within business and how some classes can tie into other majors along with minors. When coming into the college I was very interested in business and wanted to have a profession in it. When professors would come, and speak it would give me a general idea on if I could see myself doing this in my life or not. This made me more educated on certain areas of business and what they were like exactly. This led me to deciding that a degree or career in business is something that I did not want to do. Without these professors talking and discussing the different disciplines of business, I feel that it would have made it harder for me to decided that I didn’t want to be in …show more content…
Prior to college I could really see myself working within a bank around the area that I am from. Now, I have learned that I want to be a high school history teacher and a sports coach. Teaching was something that I kind of thought of, but not extensively until I realized that I did not want to be a business major. Coaching has always been something that I have wanted to do in my life. I have always loved sports and could always see myself coaching them one day. With my History Education degree, I hope to complete a coaching minor or coaching certificate so I can coach high school sports like football, basketball, or baseball. As time goes on and when I get some experience under my belt in teaching I could possibly see myself getting my master’s degree and becoming a superintendent or principal in a high
I see that at every level (freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior) it not only gets more in depth but also gives greater insight to what is to come. One thing is for certain, what I learned throughout this course will help me in many ways outside of it. At my current job, I will now be able to look at the decision that are made more closely and understand them a little more (purchasing, marketing, etc.). One final aspect that helped me throughout this course was the peer-to-peer collaboration. The feedback I received after posting my debriefs and my PowerPoint helped me finish the final rounds with a little more confidence, even though I did not do all that
Being in this class has benefited me towards my priorities. I was always one to procrastinate and I still am, but now I know how to do it in a smarter, more effective way. During this class, I found out how to plan my priorities. I had to think about my life priorities, semester priorities, and also my week’s priorities. All of these take time and dedication to achieve and procrastinating in the wrong way is not going to help. My life priorities were to graduate early, and receive my degree. The semester priorities were to pass all my classes, and also to take knowledge from the courses. My week’s priorities were a little more realistic, and they were to take time on my activities and to not be stressed about a small situation. These priorities are very important to me because I feel like these will lead me into the right direction for my career. This section of this course has had value toward my college career success. It has helped with life skills that I will be able to take farther in
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
This class showed me how to have a good appearance in the way that I dress, how to have a formal and a proper way to dress for every occasion, when I started I didn't even know how to tie a Tie a Tie, or to keep the line of my pants and shirts vertical and straight, and keep my shoes clean, but now I know that.
I feel that the courses I have selected will help me expand on the many marketing courses I have already completed. Receiving my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, Management, and Economics, with a concentration in Marketing from Empire State College is something I take great pride in. Along with this degree and gaining the knowledge from these courses I am confident I will be able to further my career in the marketing field. I hope that the courses I have selected fulfill the standards that the college has come to expect.
When I first started the semester, I had absolute no Idea of what major I wanted to do. Now after taking this course I have been able to narrow it down to 2 majors that I am interested in taking. I had no idea that there was even a sports administration major. If the class never brought in the sports administration presenter I would have never known about the major. In this course I have learned more about my transferable skills, personality type, academic interests, personal values, skills and strengths.
The career path I want to take is to be an athletic director at a high school, and coach high school football. I decided to take this path with my life because I feel its stress free and I can handle the work. Being an athletic director requires a lot of things like bachelor’s degree and being able to work with teenagers and children. I was also inspired by Coach Carr and what he has done at Edgewood Academy by building championship programs and turning boys into men. The questions I ask myself are. How much money can I make, how many years do I want to work in this field, where will I live, how much money will I make in the field of coaching, and the job description? In twenty years I hope to be athletic director of a high school somewhere
At the beginning of the semester my outlook on this course was not so good. I was not looking forward to giving speeches or learning things that seemed like common sense, but as time went on I could tell that I was actually taking things away from it. I have learned that I am not so good at coming up with things to say under pressure and I get extremely nervous when I have to talk in front of people that I don’t know well. Oh wait, I already knew those things. This class has motivated me to strengthen my social skills and has also taught me how to effectively work in a team environment through the team communication consultant project. I will show this by analyzing my teams strategic plan, the cohesiveness of the team, and the productivity of the team.
I then asked him if the youth center has ever considered asking for donations to go towards their funding, and if so what came as a result? He responded by stating that the youth center has indeed received donations in the past from various individuals, none of which though are large enough to have a lasting impact on the organization. Although “they did help ease some of the problems at the time being.”
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
There was a significant amount of knowledge given in this course, involving concepts that in our teaching career will be extremely important. From this course I have gained a significant amount of learning experiences. I had the pleasure learning about how the educational system has come to be what it is today and who were the important people in the creation of the public education, like Horace Mann. Watching the videos and reading the chapters required has opened my eyes more of how a teacher should respond to different situations involving a student, For example when we read the chapter on the laws that revolve around the educators and the students. I had absolutely no clue that students had rights while in school property. Another learning
...ew it in different perspectives. The outcomes were surprisingly insightful and greatly enhance my contribution towards the development of our business plan. It allows me to look back on what has been done and learned from what did or did not work out. In other words, it helped me to see both the positivity as well as the negativity in our ideas and thus stimulate improvements. This assignment also cultivated a sense of team spirit through teamwork and boost creativity through the development of thinking outside the box. Therefore, this assignment has definitely aid my knowledge in developing skills such as writing up comprehensive critical reflection and evaluating the risks of certain business ideas. Aside from that, I have also managed to deal with people from different cultural background through teamwork and develop unique business ideas and market strategies.
As a child, have you ever been asked what do you want to be when you grow up? When I was little, all I ever wanted to do was open up my own dance company. I chose to study Business Administration because I love the feeling of being an in professional and sophisticated manner. I really feel as though choosing the business field was the best option I ever made for myself because I’m getting the opportunity to show many people out there how professional I can be and also the skills I have as a person.
This summer’s course in ‘Business and Society’ was a great opportunity for me to learn more about myself, my perspective of business, the role of government in society, policy makers and most importantly the views of the stakeholders. For the spring semester gone and this summer session almost all classes were tied into my major, giving me a better understanding on what I want out of my degree. My major here at Marymount Manhattan College is Finance and this class has surely helped me in figuring out, the workings of ‘big business’ and its impact on stakeholders. This course has helped me understand why many laws, at one point to me sounded absurd, but are in place to protect both industry and stakeholder. I never thought communication was such a priority in the business world until taking this class. From newly learnt material I see communication as a
In terms of Personal Development I feel that the course has helped me to develop the skills I need to improve my grades, and to build my confidence.
