Consequences if cigarettes were made illegal
There are many different consequences if cigarettes were made illegal. Some of these consequences are advantages but there surprisingly there are also many disadvantages. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? Is it easier to control smoking if it is legal with tobacco control laws in place? Smoking has been around for a long time and it certainly wouldn’t be that easy to completely get rid of them.
Advantages:
• There would be less cigarette related deaths
• It would help the environment
• It would make some quit smoking and they would save money
Disadvantages:
• The government wouldn’t gain taxes for cigarettes anymore
• There would be millions of jobs lost in the tobacco industry
• There would be a huge increase of selling cigarettes in the black market as people who are addicted would be craving cigarettes
It is clear making smoking illegal would be a huge challenge. Making smoking illegal would force many people to give up the bad habit but on the other hand there would be many people who are addicted to this drug turning to the black market to continue smoking. There are so many people out there that don’t even enjoy smoking and want to quit but they can’t because it is so addictive. The people who would give up because of the law would bring down the cigarette related deaths but as it says above not everyone would have the willpower to give up.
There’s no way that they could ever completely get rid of smoking as it has been around for so long. The only thing that can be done successfully is having restrictions on it. The following are the tobacco control laws that are currently in place.
The Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2002 is the principal law governing smoking in pub...

...ife. Furthermore smoker’s needs to be encouraged to quit thus it may take many attempts before victims can quit completely. However, good communication with smokers needs careful discussion to reduce the risk of earlier failure problems facing quitting. If nurses can make it their duty by reaching out to each of their patients about quitting smoking, then this would go a long wait in reaching a lot of people even if they don’t want to. There is already smoke free policy in the UK which is working and hopefully will still help in the reduction of smoking con gumption. It is important the government do more of anti-smoking campaigns to reach out to the manual and routine group and make follow up in regards to quitting completely. Furthermore, they need to increase tax rates on tobacco and put an end to shops that still advertising cigarette smoking in their shops
Smoking cigarettes is a detrimental practice not only to the smoker, but also to everyone around the smoker. According to an article from the American Lung Association, “Health Effects” (n.d.), “Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S., causing over 438,000 deaths per year”. The umbrella term for tobacco use includes the use of cigarettes, cigars, e-cigs and chewing tobacco. While tobacco causes adverse health consequences, it also has been a unifying factor for change in public health. While the tobacco industries targets specific populations, public health specifically targets smokers, possible smokers, and the public to influence cessation, policies and education.
There is only negative factors to it that positive. According to the California’s Tobacco control program’s article the 1# preventable cause of death, the use of cigarettes as the primary way of consuming tobacco did not become popular until the early 1900s. Cigarette smoking peaked in 1965 in the United States, when about 50 percent of men and 33 percent of women smoked. Smoking tobacco can result to lung cancer or other deadly diseases that kills more than murder by more than 200 and traffic accident for more than 50. According to the New York State smoker’s quitline, 169,400 Americans contract lung cancer every year. 156,700 (93%) will die because of the disease. Of those deaths, 135,630 (87%) were smokers. Smoking is really addictive. A smoker is someone who smokes regularly. Smoking regularly causes addiction, so almost all the smokers are addicted. An addict is someone who is addicted to a substance that they cannot control themselves because the brain changes that happens when consuming the drugs occur over time and starts to object the addicted person to the point when they lose self-control to resist taking
Another very important thing to consider is while these smoking bans may appear to have a good intent, they present to society a difficult scenario if imposed and maintained; they threaten to set a precedent for the restriction of other freedoms that humanity may take for granted. Smoking bans may be justifiable but, like many other prominent moral dilemmas, it may take centuries if not millennia to satisfactorily answer the questions brought forth by the issue. Tobacco use first appeared as early as the days of Christopher Columbus.... ... middle of paper ... ...
There needs to be a policy to ban cigarettes, it kills the smoker, in addition, could kill the person exposed to the smoke from cigarettes. “The cigarette is also a defective product, meaning not just dangerous but unreasonably dangerous, killing half its long-term users” (Proctor), cigarettes are not healthy in any way making it a defective product, it mainly kills the smoker rather than helping them. It was produced to be inhalable smoke harming anyone who smokes them making it a defect because in the past the tobacco was too harsh to be inhaled. The policy would help cigarette smokers, especially since they don’t even like the habit of smoking cigarettes, knowing it harms them.
... “Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. It causes serious illness among an estimated 8.6 million persons, it costs $167 billion in annual health-related losses, and it kills approximately 438 000 people each year. (n1, n2) Worldwide, smoking kills nearly 5 million people annually. If current trends continue, this number will double by 2030, and smoking will kill more than 1 billion people during this century” (Frieden and DE). Therefore, banning smoking in public places can reduce at least some of these problems and would enable people to live in a healthier way.
One of the largest and most problematic health issues in our society is smoking. Smoking is currently the leading cause of death in our country, due to its harmful and addicting contents, such as nicotine and tobacco. Although millions die from it each year, smoking is the single most preventable cause of death as well. Without smoking, a tremendous amount of money and lives will be saved. I think that our country should ban smoking and the production of cigarettes in order to maintain a healthier nation, help save the environment, and prevent the almost 1000 deaths that they cause in fires each year.
Nowadays, the debate that cigarettes should be illegal and banned has become a popular topic. If they are banned, it will bring some negative problems and positive effects. What will happen if cigarettes are banned? Firstly, once smokers stop smoking immediately, their body will get a lot of bad conditions, especially for their digestive, respiratory, circulatory systems and cannot sleep well. Secondly, if smokers can’t stand anymore, they will find new way to instead of cigarettes and lead to more seriously problems. So it easy cause obesity, drug crimes and even smokers try to smuggle cigarettes and lead to black market. And then the government and related personnel will reduce the income. At last, however it also bring benefits for people
This year alone cigarettes will kill over 420,000 Americans, and many more will suffer from cancers, and circulatory and respiratory system diseases. These horrible illnesses were known to come from cigarettes for years. Recently the Food and Drug Administration declared nicotine, the main chemical in cigarettes, addictive. This explains why smokers continue to use cigarettes even though smokers are aware of the constantly warned about health dangers in cigarettes. Some researchers have also found out that smoking by pregnant women causes the deaths of over 5,000 babies and 115,000 miscarriages. The only way to get rid of the suffering and loss of life by cigarettes is to ban them. . For years cigarettes have been known to cause cancer, emphysema, and other horrible illnesses. The deaths of over 420,000 of Americans this year will be do to cigarettes. With all the other causes of deaths, alcohol, illegal drugs, AIDS, suicide, transportation accidents, fires, and guns, cigarettes still count for more deaths than those do combined. We can’t stand and watch people die because they smoke cigarettes. Thousands of smokers try to rid themselves of cigarettes but can't because of additive nicotine. Nicotine was recently declared addictive by the Food and Drug Administration, which explains why many smokers continue to smoke despite the health warnings on cigarette smoking. Nicotine makes it almost impossible for cigarette smokers to quit smoking because of its addictive nature, and with the cigarette manufacturers putting just enough nicotine in the so they cant be outlawed. The benefits of outlawing cigarettes greatly outnumber the disadvantages, for example, many scientists believe a link between smoking and a shortened life span exists between the two, a ban on cigarettes could increase life spans. Many studies suggest that billions of dollars now spent on smoking related. Smoking related illnesses could be reduced by outlawing cigarettes, families could save money by not purchasing cigarettes, and accidental fires costing millions of dollars caused by cigarettes would stop. Although a complete ban on cigarettes currently remains almost impossible, several organizations recently helped create a bill that could control cigarettes much in the same way the government now controls drugs. One such organization, the Food and Drug Administration, headed by David Kesslar drafted a major part, which would require manufacturers to disclose the 700 chemical additives in cigarettes, reduce the level of harmful chemicals, require cigarette companies to warn of the addictive nicotine, restrict tobacco advertising and promotion, and control the level of nicotine cigarettes contain.
Quitting smoking can be very challenging and it is never easy to quit, but if you use a calm persuasion and not demanding or criticising yourself, slowly you will get rid of smoking. About 100,000 people in the UK die from smoking each year. Addiction to smoking leads to many diseases such as: lung cancer, heart disease, kidney problems, pulmonary diseases and it also increases the risk of miscarriage.
Although it is beneficial for the economy for the production of tobacco products it is extremely risky to use the product. According to researchers second-hand smoke is terrible for everyone in the world who walk by someone who is exhaling. In the article by Robert Proctor “Why ban the sale of cigarettes? The case for abolition” he states that cigarettes are the “most deadl...
Every year tobacco is responsible for over 480,000 deaths. That includes people who have died from secondhand smoke. When statistics like this exist it is hard to understand why tobacco is still legal. This number increases every year that passes and most people believe it isn’t shrinking anytime soon. Tobacco should be banned because it’s deadly to not only the users, it’s highly addictive, and the tobacco industry is corrupting information promoting its harmful product. Society shouldn’t have to deal with anymore premature deaths due to a lethal legal product. We should work towards getting this useless product banned everywhere.
The first most important reason why smoking should be banned is beacuse it causes health problems. In teh first place, smoking does harm to people. When a person smokes lkots of cigarettes during the day he will have illnesses such as hearth disease, lung cancer and bronchitis. Lung cancer is more dangerous than other diseases because it is fatal. Furthermore, people who smoke usually have shortness of breath and weakness and if a person has aither of them she gets tired both quickly and easily. what is more, people who do mot smoke may have serious diseases because of passive smoking as cigarette's smoke is as dangerous as smoking cigarette. If a person inhales its smoke, he may have an ilness like lung cancer.
Smoking cigarettes can be very harmful to your life with so many health issues, such as heart disease, cancer and emphysema. Some people think it’s not a huge issue smoking cigarettes but it’s a great way to lose ten years of your life. You lose lots of money, a lifetime of health issues, and cause you to have yellowing of the teeth and bad breath .There is way too many health risks involved to start using this drug. Say no to cigarettes you will be healthier in the end then to continue on this wrongful path.
Scientists and health officials have been arguing the detrimental effects smoking has on our health for many years. Smoking can lead to serious complications including asthma, pancreas, lung and stomach cancer due to the large number of carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals) and other various substances added to it. It is a health hazard for both smokers and non-smokers and it is especially harmful to unborn babies. Although smokers claim that it helps them to relax and release stress, the negative aspects of the habit take over the positive. As it has been stressed by the scientists and experts, there are some very severe reasons of smoking but its crucial consequences should also be taken into consideration.
