For my concert report I listened to the three pieces selected for students who couldn’t make it out to a concert. The pieces combine last around 34 minutes and 64 seconds. There were four pieces listed; however, one of them had been removed from YouTube. So I could only listen to three pieces. The first piece performed was Prelude and Fugue in D minor composed by Bach. Prelude and Fugue in D minor was passionately performed by Jacqueline Leung on the piano. The second piece I listened to was of Ride of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner. This piece was energetically conducted by Daniel Barenboim in the Berliner Philharmonic orchestra. There were many string instruments and a lot of brass instruments that composed this orchestra. I loved the three pieces all together. The performances were very heartfelt. All the performers were on stage in a professional setting. They all wore black dress clothes and the performing halls looked like the average concert hall. All the groups seemed to be very concretely together except for some parts of the piano solo in Rhapsody in Blue. The piano solo seemed to jump around a bit and wasn’t as coherent as I thought it could have been. All of the musicians in each piece were very energetic and fully into their performance. They also seemed to have their skills and instrument mastered. Of all the pieces my favorite piece was Prelude and Fugue in D minor by Bach. This piece is very fluent, energetic, elegant, and pleasing to me. It has a pulse that is easy to follow and the way it was performed makes me want to dance to it. I love how the phrases flow together and how it slowly grows or diminishes in volume as opposed to dropping or rising suddenly. My least favorite piece was Rhapsody in Blue. The biggest reason that this piece was my least favorite of the three was because I didn’t much care for the piano solo. The piano solo didn’t seem to carry the melody recognizably a lot of the time, and it jumped all over the place dynamically. I didn’t like the sudden loud to sudden soft dynamics. It is ok here and there in a piece; however, Rhapsody in Blue did it too much for my
