Weapons in the workplace has been a legal issue in the business field for years. Many liability issues has risen that concerns employees’ rights and workplace safety. Laws have been passed at the state and federal levels that will allow United State citizens to carry concealed weapons, once they have received a concealed weapon permit. However, several businesses will not allow their employees to carry their weapons, may it be in their offices, on their person or in their vehicles. The purpose of this paper is to examine the laws and regulations that do not allow and do allow employees to bring weapons to work. I will also be examining the pros and cons of allowing employees to carry conceal weapons in the workplace. So that we may see how some companies are implementing their rules and regulations for concealed weapons carrying in the workplace, I have obtain a weapons policy from a local business. Concealed Weapons in the Workplace In the United States, many states have passed laws, which allow their citizens to carry concealed weapons. Policies to obtain the necessary permits for concealed weapons vary from state to state, and some of those policies are very lenient. For example, let us look at the laws and policies to obtain a concealed weapons permit in Illinois. Being a resident of Illinois, you must go to the local sheriff’s department of the county that you reside in with your Driver’s license or a State ID, along with two references. You will inform the clerk that you are interested in applying for a concealed weapon permit and then proceed to filling out whatever forms necessary. The fee for this is thirty to forty dollars and if you are a valid candidate, you will receive your permit in a few weeks. As long as we understand the responsibility and are prepared, concealed carry is a practical way to defend yourself, love ones, and co-workers. Be aware of the laws of your state, it is important. It is important to know locations and venues, where it is always illegal to carry a gun. Individual states have their own specific regulations, and they are intended to “protect the best interest of every person” (Articlesfactory.com, 2013). There are two venues that guns are excluded from that is sporting events and school campuses. The misfire of a weapon in one of these venues, or threatening someone, or showing someone the weapon can cause a major panic.
