The poems I am about to tell you about are about a couple people who are struggling in life. “The Village Blacksmith” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is about a blacksmith who helps the village out by fixing their metal tools. He works day and night to get his orders done and if he does go home to sleep he sleeps for a couple hours and has to wake up early to get stuff done. He does not stop working and he helps everyone that needs it. The next poem I did is “Because I Could Not Stop For Death” by Emily Dickinson. It’s about a girl who is riding a carriage with another man. She put away her leisure and her labor for his civility. She is also talking about death and how she dislikes death and she doesn’t want to die. I want to focus on how similar the two poems are. …show more content…

Every morning he starts a new job and tries to finish them in one day. When he is done for the day he goes home for a good night's rest. He doesn't owe money to anyone and he earns whatever he can to get by. He works from morning till night and for weeks on end until he gets things done. “Because I Could Not Stop For Death” this poem is about a girl who doesn’t like the thought of death. She says that “death is for eternity and you can’t stop it from coming closer and closer.” (Emily Dickinson page 223). She says that “he stopped for her so she put her labor and her leisure away for his civility.” ( Emily Dickinson page 222). She is talking about what they passed when they were in the horse drawn carriage. She says “We passed the setting sun, Or rather -- He passed us.” ( Emily Dickinson page 223).
