Throughout society, the perception of superheroes was formed by human imagination for one to model him/herself after, also known as a role model. However, thoughts and opinions about superheroes have changed through years, which has caused the classic hero and the modern day hero to have some pretty obvious differences between them; for example Beowulf and Michael Jackson. The epic poem “Beowulf” was one of the first works of English literature, it explores his heroic actions between the battle with, Grendel, Grendel's mother, and the Dragon. The basic concept between these two characters has many similarities and differences. They both acquire the heroic quality of bravery, loyalty, and being a role model. He was born and grew up in a strict working family in Gary, Indiana. As early as 5 years old Jackson showed an interest in music along with most of his family. He began his music career as the lead singer of the Jackson 5 which consisted of him and his four brothers, this was how MJ pathway to fame was founded. He created many songs that inspired people throughout the world which changed the music industry forever. However Jackson had been through a lot as a kid, he had been in the spotlight since he was five and was abused by his father, which all eventually led him towards his downfall. “He had a serious narcotic addiction and it appears that he was being injected on a regular basis with high doses of Demerol, a powerful painkiller.” (Sirota, Michael) As mentioned, his rough childhood caused him to make these bad decisions, and he was not able to discover who he really was. Around this time he went into hiding, he told an old friend that he rented a tour bus and went with his kids to Arizona. However he could not hide for long. “Before long, the boy seen holding Jackson's hand and leaning lovingly on his shoulder in the documentary – a recovered cancer patient – told investigators that Jackson had molested him. The police raided the Neverland Ranch on November 18th, 2003, confiscating pornography and other evidence.”(Hiatt, Brian) Simply Jackson had become a wreck, he was not able to perform which resulted in no money being made. However he had done this to himself, he rejected all help that was provided to him. Basically, his fame and power were the cause of this downfall.
