Compare and contrast the New Deal with the Great Society. Show at least two examples of similarity and two examples of difference between the two programs.
The New Deal and Great Society both took racial steps to attempt to improve upon a system of the past that was no longer work. Franklin Roosevelt stormed head on into combating the Great Depression with his New Deal, intent on giving Americans their jobs back and rebuilding the economy after it fell through leaving many homeless and hungry on the streets. Lyndon Johnson, Like FDR was tackling poverty and an economic slump, he differed by instead of treating the state of the economy as a political challenge, and he took it as a personal challenge having grown up during the Great Depression. …show more content…

Franklin Roosevelt Began his presidency by tackling all of the issues with the economy as well as taking stands to support the poor, regulate the market and build a security blanket for the people. Franklin Roosevelt used services like the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Civil Works administration to get people back up and working and bringing in an income and slowly bringing life back to the economy. Johnson waged his “war on poverty” with instead of providing people with jobs, using the federal government to ensure equality and opportunity for all Americans. They also took steps to right civil rights injustices. Roosevelt made steps to bring pay equality to women in the work force, specifically during World War 2. He also passed Executive order 8802, which was used to end segregation and discrimination in the work place. Both programs were used in response to major events during their time, Roosevelt taking on the great depression and World War 2 and Johnson taking on his “war on poverty” and the Vietnam
