Around the Late 1890 many African Americans wanted to get rid of discrimination. Booker T. Washington was an African American that wrote the Atlanta compromise speech and thought the only way to get rid of discrimination was by African Americans getting a vocational education. The Atlanta compromise speech focuses on African Americans being friends with white Southerners and for African Americans to get a vocational education or learn how to do skilled jobs in school. DuBois was another African American that criticized Booker T. Washington that Booker T. Washington way was incorrect and it wouldn’t help at all. DuBois believed that African Americans should get an education and there shouldn’t be any Jim Crow laws. Through Booker T. Washington’s Atlanta Compromise speech and DuBois critique it clearly states that African Americans can use many methods to get rid of discrimination, but there are dissimilarities and similarities on how to tackle discrimination.
