Cancer affects young, old, rich, poor, black, or white; it does not discriminate. Many families across the United States have been affected by colon cancer. Colon cancer patients, like Gloria Bowsher, are in the fight for their life. Gloria was diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2008, and is currently in remission. Gloria, a 78-year-old woman, has been an inspiration in numerous lives. She is a magnificent human being. Throughout her battle with cancer, she continuously fights it with faith and determination; failure is not an option. Gloria has had recent checkups and has confirmed for the second time she still is cancer free.

Cancer is an uncontrolled growth of cells that disrupt the body tissue and organs. The cells can grow and they then multiply to form tumors that invade the local tissue and sometimes scatter all over the body. As cancer progresses, it causes the body to have pale skin, pain, fatigue, and loss of appetite (Cancer and your environment). Although thousands of people struggle with colon cancer every day, it is treatable and people do survive this rollercoaster ride.

It causes colon cancer to develop in the colon or rectum; cells generally grow and split only when they are needed to keep our bodies functioning accurately. But sometimes the mechanisms that regulate cell growth stop working and cells divide out of control and form tumors, which are cancer (Colon Cancer.) Even though men are at higher risk for colon cancer, if a person’s immediate relative develops colorectal cancer younger than age 50, her or his chance of being diagnosed with colon cancer is nearly double the risk.
