The biggest challenge in my college career is having self discipline and proscation. I lack self discipline, I have trouble getting my school work done on time . I always try to wait till the last minute to turn my assignments in. I know I am able to manage my time better, but I think I have all the time in the world and I do not . I want and need to get into the habit of doing my school work early and turning it in early. I'm back to my highschool habits and in high school we had five days to turn in assignments and I would take advantage of it because of it I got into a bad habit of pushing my school work back. I have time I just do not know how to use it. I did some research for some tips on how to make better use of my time and
I was given a chance to study art at Harrison and I could not be any happier to officially pursue what I love. It is easy to forget that a huge part of your success in college is staying healthy, keeping a sharp mind and sound body. It is very important to eat right and to maintain a routine sleeping schedule. Staying active and making sure you get enough sleep so that you can keep yourself healthy. A recent study found that walking once a day increase your memorization, which in turn helps you to do better studying.
As a college freshman, I was worried about so many things coming into college. The biggest and most important thing was how to actually succeed in college. This course has helped me tremendously with succeeding in college. Throughout this semester, we have gone through multiple topics to help us succeed in college. The topics range from effective note taking, caring for yourself, how to succeed in college, understanding who you are, and also to planning your priorities. From taking this class, I have learned many strategies that helped me understand who I am as a person, how to take effective notes, and how to plan my time.
Just as they are standing face-to-face with each other, I am standing face-to-face with procrastination. I encounter difficulty managing my time with just about everything I do; I always wait too long. Throughout high school I was never in a hurry to get any of my work done. The work was easy to me, so if I waited until the last minute to do anything, it wasn’t hard for me to finish. I could always take my time to get everything done and still get a good grade in high school. Even if the work was harder and took me a little extra time, my teachers were all very lenient and accepted late work. My high school was very easy and allowed me to get into the bad habit of procrastinating.
Success isn’t given, it’s earned on the track, on the field, and in the gym with blood, sweat, and the occasional fear” -Unknown. This is relevant because it is hard for students to want to play sports but also to do well in school. If high school students can’t find the time to keep their grades up or to keep a certain GPA, they should not be allowed to play sports. Students need to prove themselves to be able to play any sport and still be able to do well in school. Also, having good grades shows the coach maturity and may earn them more playing time if they are working hard in school and in practice.
Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is very hard to stop procrastinating everything once you have gotten into the habit of doing it. Once I had a term paper due for my religion class. It was to be ten pages long and we were told to spend a lot of time doing it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited to the very last minute to do it. I waited until the night before to do most of it. Needless to say, I was up very late that night. In this class there was always a part of the paper due on a certain date before the final paper was due. Having things due before the final paper is due keeps me on task and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your final result will be.
It is perceived that college graduates will make more money and be successful in their lifetime. Although it may seem that college graduates are more successful in the long run, which they can be if they are motivated. Anyone can get a college degree but what one does with it is what determines their future. President Obama has called it “an economic imperative.” The rate of return on education is 10%. If one goes to college an extra year he/she can earn an extra 3,000 a year. If one attends a 4 year then he/she can earn up to an extra 12,000. Attending college can cause anxiety because of how much one may pay. In the future it will pay off because it 's given one a way to provide for him or herself. Everyone wants to better themselves in life…right? No one wants to graduate high school and be stuck living with their parents or only make minimal wage. There are plenty of ways to have a better life, one in which is attending college. If a person attends college, they have a more likely chance of making more money, being more successful, and securing their future financially. Going to college not only leaves someone with better opportunities but it can instill in a person responsibilities, persistency and work ethic. All of these things are important unless a person is born into a rich family and are automatically given a job, the rest of civilization has to work and that is where college comes into play.

A recent failure that has changed how I go about my daily life is one that many college freshman experience in their first year. In high school I was a very good student, but I did not have to put in a lot of effort to get the grades that I wanted. I would joke with my friends and say that high school taught me how to put in the least amount of effort, and still get the maximum result. All of my teachers told me, as they did every student, that college was going to be different and if you do not put in more effort it would be very difficult. I knew this coming into school, but I am not sure if part of me wanted to prove people wrong, or if I actually was just adjusting to college life. I did not study as much as I should of, and as a result my grades suffered. Luckily I did not completely ruin my grade point average, but since first semester I have completely changed my study habits. This has taught a much needed lesson about hard work, and I am determined to never again fail at my studies. I am the kind of person that learns a lot from failures. My dad has always told me it is ok to make a mistake, but never make the same mistake twice. This I a motto that I live by.
For starters, school has taught me to manage my time wisely. In high school I was very busy and had to manage my time. I was very involved in the school; I participated in honors society, DECA and student council, along with varsity sports such as volleyball, cross country, swimming, diving, track, and soccer. As you can see I was very busy just with these extracurricular activities. I took AP classes as well which require a lot of time and effort. Also I was in six different sports in all four years. Practices for each sport were at least one hour long if not longer for a minimum of five days a week. In order for me to be able to do all of these activities all four years, I had to learn to use my time wisely. Being able to get things done in a timely manner and having it be good quality can be a difficult thing. This is a lesson that I have learned the hard way. Each day I had a pretty set schedule and knew what I needed to get done. In the morning I would go to school and go to all my classes until three; then it was one practice until five and after that it was another practice until seven....
