Student-Athletes vs. Athletes College athletes should definitely have another source of income. The main source of most of the college’s income is coming from college athletics. College athletics attract other students to the school, which means more money for the institution. After a high school athlete begins to do sports in college it basically becomes their job. Waking up early and putting your body through tough workouts every day of the week with partially any free time. Being a student-athlete takes a toll on the mind and the body. Once an athlete gets on campus his or her clock starts right then. The main reason athletes should be paid is because the NCAA and the college make money off of them. The coach’s salary amount is based on how the students do in their specific sport. There are coaches in college being paid millions of dollars based off of how well the athletic program performs. While they sit back and just scream at athletes to do this and that, athletes are the ones who are suffering. Athlete’s put their body at risk every day for their coaches and their teammates. Even when dealing with injuries they still give it their all because coaches tend to see it as a sign of weakness. Football is the most dangerous sport today. Players are being hit and put in the ER for major damage to the body. Football players get older they are guaranteed to suffer from many times of brain suffrage due to all the hits they receive. Many athletes suffered from season-ending injuries and have not been properly taken care of. The coaches have some sympathy for the athletes, but the next thing on their mind is how I am going to replace this athlete. Athletes are more likely to drink, take illegal street drugs, and develop gambling problems due to the stress they come
