The dissolution of the Soviet Union and replaced by the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is one of the most important events of the period. 1991 represents a new milestone in the history of the world. From this date the political map of Europe and Asia has changed.The collapse of the Soviet Union has created a geopolitical space in the center of Eurasia. The Collapse of the USSR has many reasons however primary reasons of collapse can be examined in social and economic context.Even though there are many social and economic reasons behind the collapse of the Soviet Union, the most remarkable and noticable reasons are cold war, chernobyl disaster and local nationalism.When the II. The objective was with help of reforms changing the oppressive democracy to more sovereign. The second objective was the realization of radical changes in the economic structure and give a new dynamism to the economy. For these major changes Gorbachev has two new policies which are perestroika, means restructiring and glasnost which means openness. The main purposes of perestoroika were increasing efficiency in the public sector, ensuring economic and social progress and renewing the administrative structure.
