“Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand.” This reflective quote by Colin Powell exemplifies the true values that a person in command should have. After watching the first presidential debate and the third presidential debate, it was evident that there were some flaws in the answering of some questions that were asked by both of the candidates. From both debates, I conclude that Hillary Clinton as doing the most thorough job of answering the questions. On October 3rd, 2002, Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone walked unto the Senate floor to give what would be one of the most momentous speeches of his career. A day prior, the Senate leadership had introduced a resolution, backed by the George W. Bush Administration, to authorize the President to attack Iraq. There is to many of this cohort that lives with a single parent, parents that both work, or with their grandparents and in most cases the children lack structure. The commencement speech given by David Foster Wallace in the autumn of 2005, is a very deep speech that examines the whole idea of a Liberal Arts education at an extremely deep and intellectual level. In the 22 minute long speech Wallace talks about how higher education not only teaches you to think but “how to exercise some control over how and what you think.” (Wallace). The reader learns, in depth, that Senator Clinton is an intellectual, a voracious reader, a policy expert, a strong advocate for the poor, a guardian of children, a clever politician, an outstanding American citizen, a committed mother, a dedicated wife, and a never-say-die woman who seeks power without apology. That which may be new to the reader, however, is the profound impact Hillary's family and upbringing had on her political beliefs and eventual political career, which has made her into somewhat of a celebrity in the American culture.
The goal of Hillary’s speech is to persuade her audience that her ideas are valid, by using ethos, pathos, and logos. Hillary is the First Lady and Senator, she shows credibility as an influential activist for woman rights. “Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and families. Over the past two and a half years, I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about the challenges facing women in my country and around the world” (Clinton 2).

As he stood on the podium in Washington D.C., preparing to give his inauguration speech, everyone tuned in to what he had to say. As he began speaking, everyone was hearing his words and soon, people were calling it one of the best written inaugural speeches ever written. Kennedy was able to connect to our country by using an emotional appeal to pull his message, successfully, off. Whether you were a hawk, a dove, or somewhere in between, John F. Kennedy saw you and seemed to speak directly to you during his inaugural address. For that reason, as he stood up there and spoke, the world listened and started to take note of our new President of the United States. By creating an emotionally persuasive speech, Kennedy went from having barely fifty one percent approval rating to skyrocketing to a seventy six percent approval rating, all with his inaugural speech.

I choose to research Hillary Clinton because I admire the drive and passion she puts into her work. She is a unique global leader whose activism has promoted social change around the world.
