Cognitive -Behavioral Theory is the most effective theoretical approach for Jack Jackson’s case. Cognitive-Behavioral Theory is a major theoretical approach that encompasses understanding of human behavior across the environment and produces behavioral and cognitive theoretical intervention strategies (Sowers & Dulmus, 2008). CBT is a psychological intervention that targets problems and addresses needs and is recognized for its importance in managing psychosocial problems in adolescents (Sudhir, 2015). CBT aims at cognitive restructuring, coping skills training, and problem-solving skills training which will all be very beneficial to Jack Jackson’s treatment goals. Using CBT will challenge Jack Jackson’s automatic thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts (retraining the brain). This intervention was chosen because it will allow the practitioner to assess the severity of Jack Jackson’s symptoms along with his cognitive functioning such as: negative automatic thoughts, hopelessness, suicidal ideations, and self-concept is an important step in carrying out the therapy (Sudhir, 2015). CBT will also allow Jack Jackson to regulate his emotions and problem solving skills by individual cognitive training functioning. Behavior modification techniques will consist of targeting the problem, clearly defining goals,a reward system, flexibility and positivity, consistency, and patience. The goal of behavior modification is to change and adjust behavior that is inappropriate or undesirable in some way. The importance of Jack Jackson’s undesirable behavior and the need to be isolated and observed will be stressed profoundly. With this observation comes awareness and the goal of understanding the cause and effect of the behaviors that will initiate change. After such undesirable behaviors are identified, they will be replaced with appropriate behaviors that are identified, developed, strengthened, and maintained. The goal of behavior modification is to use reinforces that will strengthen positive behavior.
