Every year, once a year, 46 days before Easter, is Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of lent for Catholics. On this day, Catholics go to church and follow a ritual. At the end of the ritual, the pastor marks a cross on every Catholic's forehead. From then on to the end of the ritual, there’s no eating any meat every Friday. Catholics agree to live the life that their God asks them to; they take sacrifices in their lives because their God made sacrifices for them. Dictionary.com says, “religion is the belief in a superhuman agency involving ritual observances and moral code of human affairs and it’s also a fundamental set of beliefs and practices agreed upon on by a group of people.” I believe religion is the belief in a higher person whose …show more content…

People turn to religion in order to, “form individual groups who share common superstitions, common ideals, [and] common fears” and it also “provides an identity” for people ("Abstract."). They get a sense of belonging because they can believe in what they feel is right. People also turn to religion in order to find meaning in their choices. Religious people pray when they are going through something they don’t think they can get through on our own, seeking God’s guidance. Praying is an important part of religion because when you sin, praying to God is like telling Him yourself that you know what you did was wrong. Confessing to your sins in a confessional is another way to tell God your sins, and when you finish confessing, the pastor will tell you that you are forgiven for your sins. Confessing your sins to God helps people, “underpin the emotions and logic” in their actions ("Abstract.") . Religion can also be seen as a form of therapy because it helps people, “confess their sins [and] feel better about themselves” ("Abstract.”).
