4:3). From all of these Scriptures, we can see that lewdness is condemned by God and is not to be a part of the Christian life. Because dancing is a form of lewdness, it is sinful. To further illustrate the sinfulness of dancing, let us look at Matthew 5:27, 28 again. In this passage, Jesus essentially stated that lust itself is every bit as sinful as fornication. To participate in dancing with those of the opposite gender will undoubtedly cause us to lust, which is sinful. Also, for one to dance in a provocative, sexual way that will cause others to lust is sinful. Look at Jesus’ words in Mark 9:42: “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.” Jesus stated that one who caused a believer to stumble (to commit sin) would be better off if they were dead! Paul described such behavior as a sin against the brethren and a sin against Christ (1 Corinthians 8:12). These two severe warnings show us that dancing is sinful because of the lust it will create in others, causing them to sin. Additionally, dancing is contradictory to the Christian principles of pure, chaste behavior. Paul very plainly stated, “it is good for a man not to touch a woman” (1 Corinthians 7:1).
