Not only the church but the individual Christian is a temple for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6: 19 – 20). Christians then must practice good health habits to protect the command center of their body – THE MIND. Christians must be whole: Physically, spiritually and mentally; all these aspects of our lives must be observed. Our best example is Jesus Christ who was not only concerned of our spiritual growth but physical wellness too as illustrated in the bible where he fed and healed the sick, (Mathew 4: 23 He healed diseases and sickness, Mark 1: 29 – 34 Jesus healed many, John 2: 1 – 11 Christ’s first miracle, changing water into wine and John 6: 1 – 14 feeding of 5,000 men).

Today’s health problems tend to center on the degenerative type of diseases directly traceable to diet and lifestyle. The original diet God planned for us consists of grains, fruits, nuts and vegetables. God’s original diet for man did not include flesh since God did not envision taking of an animal’s life as in (Gen 1: 31), all that God made was very good. On the contrary consumption of animal products comes along with health implications for us. For example, it is estimated that every year in USA alone, millions suffer from poultry food poisoning because inspection fail to detect contamination by salmonella (bacteria and micro - -organism) (Source). In other contexts media reports have indicated that populations unaware of the risks have consumed meat from sick animals succumbed to death or developed serious health complications. Furthermore, studies conducted in recent years indicate that increased meat consumption can cause increase in atherosclerosis, cancer, kidney disorder, trichinosis, osteoporosis and many others.
