Chicago The Musical On Friday April 21, I attended Chicago, a musical performed in Griswold Theatre at American International College. The performance started at 7 p.m and I arrived at approximately 6:45 p.m. This was the first time I had ever attended a live musical performance and the first thing I noticed upon walking into the lobby of the theatre was the excitement. The audience had a buzz among it, making it very apparent that everyone was looking forward to seeing the actors hard work pay off on the stage. Chicago is a two act musical taking place in the 1920’s where characters Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly have both committed the crime of murder. The plot …show more content…

Roxie thought she had gotten away with the murder when she convinced her foolish husband Amos that a burglar had murdered Fred Casely, but the truth ends up coming out and Roxie is convicted. This is where the song “Funny Honey” is performed in reference to Amos. From here Velma and Roxie find themselves in the same section of the local jail and the song “Cell Block Tango” is performed. The area of the jail they are in is run by Matron “Mama” Morton who is corrupt. This is where we heard the song “When You’re Good To Mama”. From the beginning Velma and Roxie were not fans of each other because Roxie is attempting to steal Velma’s lawyer Billy Flynn. This is where we see “A Tap Dance” performed to impress Billy. Billy then performs what is known as his anthem, “All I Care About Is Love” to the girls in the prison. Billy decides to take Roxie’s case and changes her story for columnist Mary Sunshine. This is where the song “A Little Bit Of Good”. Billy turns Roxie’s press conference into a type of ventriloquist act where Roxie is mouthing the words and Billy is spinning a different story with his words.
