In the “Princess Bride” the author talked about three valuable skills, strength, skill and cleverness. Four character show some of these qualities, the people being Westley, Inigo, Fezzik and Vizzini. After Buttercup is kidnapped “The Man in Black” (aka:Westley) follows the other three characters mentioned (pg.96). The author uses the three thieves as a challenge for Wesley. He therefore is challenged by the Silican, Inigo, which is when the challenge of cleverness, strength and, skill begins. Someone can predict that the author will use Westly as a carrier of each skill proving that having just strength, or just cleverness, or just skill will not win you anything but having a balance between each you can easily beat any of the three. The Princess Bride is a cliche love story movie about two lovers and their tale that tells how they became separated and found each other again. It tells this story using archetypes all throughout the movie. One of the most important of the archetypes being the magic weapon. Overcoming obstacles and and achieving goals becomes much easier with the help of a magic weapon.
The first protagonist the audience is introduced to is Amberle. Her story is surprisingly similar to the traditional hero’s journey despite being a heroine. Kate was looked down upon by the male blacksmith in which they believed she was inferior. During one of Williams joust his armor was damaged and he had no money to get it fixed. He tried to barter with the male blacksmith but they would not take on the task. William took the task to Kate saying that the male blacksmith where talking about how bad her work was which is why she took on the task. Kate was confident in her work and decided she could challenge the social outlook that was put on women during the medieval times.

During the medieval era, a new form of literature/entertainment emerged; the medieval romance. Since the end of the medieval era, the medieval romance has lived on and flourished in today's society. There have been many current examples of medieval romances, however, the example that will be covered in this paper is The Princess Bride. The main traits of a medieval romance include: a hero, an evil enemy, a quest that the hero embarks on, tests of the hero’s strengths and weaknesses, supernatural elements, conflicts between the hero and the evil enemy, and of course a female character.
Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane tells the story of Charles Foster Kane (Orson Welles) and his rise to power and his downfall. With this rise and fall of power comes an overarching theme of control of others, or their inability to control. This portrayal of power is shown through numerous aspects of the film. A specific element used constantly in the movie is depth of composition. In clip 1, the film utilizes depth of composition to demonstrate who controls the power. Throughout most of the clip, the characters seen in the shot are almost lined up in the order of who has most control in the situation. When you see Mr. Thatcher (George Coulouris), Kane’s mother (Agnes Moorehead) and Kane’s father (Harry Shannon) in the room discussing what they’re going to do about Kane’s future, the mother is appeared closest to the camera, followed by Mr. Thatcher in the chair behind her, then the father on the outside of the room, and finally Kane seen from the window playing outside. These characters’ placement in the shot demonstrates the amount of control they have in the situation; the mother was the owner of the mine, thus the holder of the wealth, Mr.
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes… literally. The Princess Bride, by William Goldman, shows us that anyone can exemplify heroic qualities even though they are not a hero. Westley is the primary hero in the story and possesses multiple heroic qualities. Even though, some of these qualities can be shared with other characters, he does have certain qualities separates him from the rest.
Sir Meliagrance believes that one of the ten knights that were in the room with the Queen slept with her over the night and challenges Sir Launcelot to a battle in order to prove that he is right (9). The problem is that Meliagrance knows that he is going to lose because he is fighting against Launcelot and in order to win Meliagrance planned a trap, “ he [Launcelot] trod on a trap and the board rolled, and there Sir Launcelot fell down more than ten fathom into a cave” (10). Meliagrance did this violent act in order to further his own interests and well-being. If Launcelot did not attend the battle, Meliagrance would win, Queen Guenever would be burnt at the stake, and the mention of any of the treason that he committed would be gone. Meliagrance believes he deserves to be given mercy and not punished for any of his wrongdoings because he pleads for mercy multiple times to Launcelot and the Queen. Launcelot also uses the technique of fighting to get what he wants; in this case, it is the woman, Queen Guenever. During the battle between the two knights, Launcelot does not want to give mercy to Meliagrance so instead, he gets approval from the Queen and tells Meliagrance that he will fight unarmed and with his left hand tied behind his back (12). In The princess Diaries 2, Princess Mia graduates from college, and moves to Genovia to live in a palace with her grandmother in order to take her place as queen. On Mia’s twenty-first birthday, she is obligated to dance with all the eligible bachelors, and at her birthday “ball”, she meets Nicholas. Mia and Nicholas have an encounter where they seem the “fall in love at first sight”. After her birthday, Mia learns about a law that is enforced in Genovia that requires her to get married before she can take her place as queen, and at the same time she finds out that Nicholas is trying to steal the crown from her. Mia finds a man named Andrew that she wants to marry, but when it comes time to get married Mia backs out and makes a motion to veto the law that forces her to get married. In the end, Mia becomes queen without having to marry, and her grandmother ends up marrying the love she always wanted.

Pride and Prejudice, the beloved novel about the romance of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy written by Jane Austen, has always been a favourite of film producers. The classic tale of Cinderella is well known for the fight of overcoming great obstacles despite great odds. However, there are always a few ill-hearted people who go out of their way to cease any competition that they might face, as seen with Cinderella’s step-sisters. Samuel Jackson says is his distinguished quote, “The hunger of imagination…lures us to…the phantoms of hope,” to help develop a more defined view of a fairytale. The story of Cinderella fully embodies the ideals of a true fairytale by encompassing magic, hope, and struggle between good and evil throughout the duration of the plot.

The knight only gets to hold this power for a short amount of time before he is caught. For his crime, he presents himself in front of a court full of women who must decide his punishment. We can see why The Wife chose this story in just the fact that an unjust man must plead for his life in front of a court of powerful women. The head of the court, the queen, decides to show him mercy if the knight can find out what it is that women truly desire. The queen and her ladies decide to give him one year to find the answer to her question, if he does not find the answer then the knight will be killed. Not only do the women have power over the knight in this situation, but they have now extended their power over him for an entire year. His life is now dedicated to finding out what exactly women
There are many moments in a person’s lives that affect them, and change their mind set, sometimes for the better or worse. In the main character’s case in the short story “A Red Dress”, she went from not caring about self image and what she wore, to caring very much about it after realizing what the world thinks. But after more experiences, she realized that someone can still be loved no matter what the look like. As shown with her, overtime, one’s realization about how other people think of you can change who you are, until you realize it really doesn't matter.
