The Cold War was a period of political hostility that occurred between the Soviet countries and the United States from 1945 to 1990. Many factors contributed to making the conflict more extreme. Spy rings, nuclear weapons, and the fear of Communist infiltration are three factors that intensified the Cold War. Although the hostility did not result in a physical war, it received much attention.
In July of 1947, the United States created the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Council. The CIA collected and investigated national safety data from places around the world. They spied on foreign countries to ensure the safety of the American people (Barnes 399). The use of national spies brought intensity to the Cold War because
