Faith is the common thread that connects all of us together in a Catholic school. It is the unique component that shows the world that we are not an ordinary school, we are a school with a mission and that mission is to not only academically educate students, but to do so with God, for God, and about God. Our mission includes evangelizing, using the Lord’s own message to encourage and inspire Catholicism in others. There the Lord provides the words that instruct us how to lead others to eternal life in Heaven with him. Our Catholic school mission begins and ends with the Lord. It’s a unique way to communicate with God personally or with a group. Prayer is that free gift from God, which can bond and inspire others with few words. Daily openings and closings, beginning classes, and immediate needs such as student illness, local or world needs, all present opportunities for school wide prayer. Statues, religious pictures, and other traditional Catholic sacramental should be provided for classrooms and displayed appropriately throughout the common areas to help all be reminded of Christ’s presence in your school. Faith should be evident in your classes as students work cooperatively with peers in a collaborative, nurturing atmospheres. It should be witnessed at faculty meetings as teachers and staff uses their talents to support and learn from one another. It should be seen on the playground in fair play and good sportsmanship, and at meetings when parents and teachers come together to discuss ways of helping and supporting students, even beginning meetings with a prayer.
