I think everyone in their lifetime has played catch with a football. It’s easy to play with friends and family, it’s an enjoyable thing to do to pass time, and doing it can bring people closer together. This essay is about my personal experience playing catch with a football. It may not seem like a big deal but to my younger self it was. I’ll never forget the first time my brother and I played catch because it made me love football and want to play it. I was seven the first time my brother asked me to play catch with him. With him being five years older than me I looked up to him and wanted to do as much as possible with him. So I quickly cheered yes, and we headed outside to the emerald ocean that was our front yard. To this day I can remember the excitement I felt in my stomach. The ball flew back and forth between us like a large leather bullet. With every catch and throw I was having more and more fun. Before that day I just played to have fun, but in that moment when I was playing catch it turned into something more. Instead of thinking of it as kids playing a game I thought about it as warriors fighting a battle. All I wanted to do was play all the time and get good like my brother had done. I looked up to him and thought of him as a major role model in my life. On that day and many others like it he taught me how to work harder than anybody else, how to look at it as more than a game, and how much the game of football can bring people together. Since that day we have played catch many more times than I can count, but none were like that first time. None could compare to the rush of joy and excitement of when he asked me.
