Although Harvey Mudd is not the only school that does not offer in or out-of-state tuition, Montana does, including the most chosen school in the state, Montana State University. For 2016-2017 undergraduate as a Montana resident, the tuition total which includes their standard in-state tuition fee, dorm room, and books/supplies, the total per semester is approximately $8,545. On the other hand, attending Montana State University as a non Montana resident includes a higher flat tuition price with a total of $16,695 per semester (‘Expenses’). With almost every department offered at Montana State, Gallatin is cheaper, more one-on-one with a professor, and still on campus! With books, supplies, and dorms staying at the same price for everyone, Gallatin has a much cheaper total tuition cost of $6,680 per semester as Montana resident. Even including an out-of-state tuition for Gallatin College, it is not much more expensive with a semester price of $10,585 (‘Expenses). Although cheaper and more one-on-one time with a professor, Gallatin College does not offer all departments given by Montana State, as it is considered a community college. Although some students, again, by circumstance, are required to take a year at Gallatin College, it is not required for all students or even by all departments. With scholarships offered to all years of students, Montana State stands out by giving opportunities to all students no matter what year they may be. Also offering a diverse amount of scholarships, by department, transfer, freshman, academic, sporting, merit, presidential, and so much more! There is a scholarship for almost every student, and some may even qualify by living in a certain area. Montana State and Gallatin College wants to try and help every student coming into their schools financially as it is known that almost all students struggle with paying for a higher education. Montana also wants to accommodate each student, with disabilities services and education programs, veteran programs, and even a building to accommodate each student no matter what troubles they may have. For financial aid, some schools will have prerequisites the students must complete to be eligible for financial aid.
