The Background of the Costs of Tuition at Iowa State University
Iowa State University is a land grant school which, among other things, means that the university gets money from the state of Iowa from the taxes that residents pay to the state. Because of this in state residents who choose to go to the university do not have to pay a large amount of money while out-of-state residents have to pay almost twice as much. Iowa State University does not have reciprocity, meaning that even residents from the surrounding states, Minnesota, Illinois, etc., have to pay full out-of-state tuition. Out-of- state residents have to pay about $9000 a year for tuition, while Iowa residents pay only about $2500 per year. (See fig1 for semester costs)

Tuition helps to pay for all of the services and programs of a University. However, some universities put more money into one or two programs or colleges to make them stronger areas of study within the university. Not all colleges or departments throughout a university have the same quality of classes or facilities. For example, Iowa State University invests a great deal of their money in the engineering and agricultural programs and so increases the quality of those programs. College is one of the most fundamental institutions in our modern world. It is a place where most of our future politicians, doctors, scientists, and leaders are made. Though, it seems that the price tag that comes with a college education is something that is too hefty for some students. Countless debates go on about whether the price of college should be abolished or whether the cost still is on the students to pay for.
Have you ever looked at a person and judged them for the color of their skin? If you have you should probably know the background of what they went through 50 years ago to try to gain equality. During the 1950s-1960s there was a civil rights movement that was a movement that ultimately changed the United States of America forever. When the people involved were fighting in a racial war for the equal rights for African Americans that ultimately ended all state racial segregations. This will tell you the large role that young children played in the civil rights movement for the following: The Freedom Rides, The Children’s March, and The Orangeburg Massacre.
The BirthMark was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne it is short dark romantic story that is closely looked at the obsession with human perfection. He had two main characters named Aylmer and Georgiana. Aylmer was not happy with Georgiana because of her birthmark. Aylmer insist Georgiana to get plastic surgery then realizes that the procedure is dangerous and agrees with it anyway. However, Georgiana dies and Aylmer then realizes that her life has been killed just for Aylmer happiness to make his wife perfect. This text is an issue that might be a broad to love in everyday life such as in selfishness, obsession, death.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald was published in the year 1925. It is romantic novel between a lot different characters that you get to know in the novel. It is like one big love circle. Daisy Buchannan is married to Tom Buchannan but before their marriage Daisy was in love with a man named Jay Gatsby. Gatsby had to go fight in the war and Daisy never heard or saw of Gatsby again. Only on the day of her wedding Gatsby wrote her a letter explain why he couldn’t see her and that he was coming home, but sadly it was already to late. Daisy was to marry Tom Buchannan and nobody could stop it. Daisy is now in marriage she doesn’t want to be in and she finds out later hat Tom has a mistress in the city. Another side of the novel is about the narrator Nick Carraway. Nick is first cousins to Daisy and they grew up together. Nick knows Tom from Yale they both graduated the same year. Nick moved from the west to West Egg to start over and he shortly discovers that he is neighbors to The Great Gatsby himself. Deeper into the novel Nick and Gatsby become acquainted and become very good friends. Gatsby lets Nick know that him and his cousin Daisy have a past and he would like to schedule to see her but he doesn’t want Daisy knowing that she is going to see him. Nick is told to invite Daisy over for tea and Gatsby just so happens to drop by. This plan is put into full affect and

America’s history-both good and bad-has much to teach us. Taking down, destroying these monuments is erasing, rewriting the physical symbols of the nation. This type of cultural whitewashing is inglorious. We can treat these monuments as a cautionary tool to remind ourselves what we are and what we are not. The cost forebears paid for the freedom of the nation should be remembered; therefore, people should retain these statues to remind of themselves what these monuments represent.

The Civil Rights Movement of the 50's and 60's was arguably one of the most formative and influential periods in American history. Hundreds of thousands of civil rights activists utilized non violent resistance and civil disobedience to revolt against racial segregation and discrimination. The Civil Rights Movement began in the southern states but quickly rose to national prominence. It is of popular belief that the civil rights movement was organized by small groups of people, with notable leaders like—Martin Luther King, Jr, Rosa Parks, Medgar Evers, and even John F. Kennedy—driving the ship. That is partly correct. The Civil Rights Movement, in its truest form, was hundreds of thousands of people organizing events and protests, working together to ensure that every American—whether black, white, brown and anything in between—had the right to a prosperous and harmonious life.
Immigration is a huge topic in the United States and made the country that it now is today. “Immigration has profoundly shaped American politics and culture. Immigrants not only provided labor for the growing economy but also gave the United States a distinctly unique social and political culture. These effects continue today.”

We are now in the 21st century and like the beginning of the 20th century the United States finds itself in the throes of a period of mass immigration. More then one million immigrants enter the Unites States, both legally and illegally every single year. Many argue that this new wave of mass immigration may help sustain the success that our nation is having in regard to the way of living that many American have come accustomed to and yet others believe that although our nation was created by immigrants it is time to "shut down" our borders. The truth of the matter is that there will always be issues in regard to immigration and the policies that the government sets forth in order control who comes into this country. Also now more then ever immigration policy has a greater affect on the American people because of the fact that we find our selves living in a time of danger or as some might argue, a perceived danger in regard to terrorism. Also with the proposal of President Bush?s new guest-worker program raises more issues in regard to immigration. The following paper will attempt to overview current immigration policy and also state what immigration policy should be over the next 25 years.
Public colleges must be affordable to anyone who wishes to attend. If colleges lack to provide this to students, it can affect dropouts, a student’s ability focus, and cause stress. The problem of lack of funding is that colleges have insufficient funds. Therefore, the best possible solution for the problem of lack of funding would be increasing and collecting more funds from state taxes. Collecting funds from the state’s taxes is an effective solution because students get more academic support programs, which decreases dropouts.
Money is the main concern for some people. It is a crucial necessity for anyone who is trying to succeed in life. Many believe that the only way to succeed is to have a lot of money. For this type of person, achieving success starts with going to a good college.
