Amberley demonstrates how she is able to ride, by attaching a seat belt that hooks behind her saddle to hold her in place. She also has two Velcro straps she attaches to hold her legs in place (marketplace). Amberley is convinced she will be able to walk again so she continues to spend an hour of her day in her frame/strider that allows her to stand and strengthen her leg muscles (new mobility) Amberley is currently heading back to Utah where she will be able to fully heal her two broken knees she got on July 4, when her horse Power fell while turning the third barrel to run home (new mobility). Amberley plans to continue to make her famous wheelchair Wednesday videos along with her speeches to help encourage people that no matter what happens
Antwone serves as a Petty Officer in the United States Navy. He is single and heterosexual, with no children. Antwone was referred to the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation, after pleading guilty to assault on a superior, non-commissioned officer. As a result of his physical aggression, he was demoted from ships serviceman Petty Officer, third class, to ships serviceman Seaman. Antwone has a history of physical aggression and poor impulse control. Antwone was referred for three sessions of psychiatry service for assessment of physical aggression, anger management, and supportive treatment. At the end of treatment, a recommendation by Dr. Davenport will be submitted to Antwone’s commanding officer, for the purpose of determining reinstatement to active duty. Antwone sees no need for evaluation and states that the cause of physical assault was a result of racial remarks by the victim. Antwone’s attitude towards fighting is stated in his words, “It’s the only way some people learn.”
Robert Duffley, a high school senior at Trinity High School, had withdrawn from his sophomore year early in the first semester after falling ill. Anticipating problems with his eligibility to participate in high-school sports during his senior year under certain NHIAA rules, Duffley’s principal sought a ruling from the NHIAA granting such eligibility. The NHIAA decided to allow Duffley to participate only during the first semester of his senior year. No reason was given for denying Duffley eligibility for the second semester. After unsuccessful appeals to the NHIAA executive council, Duffley filed a petition in the Superior Court, seeking equitable and injunctive relief. Duffley alleged "violation of his due process rights” and that the defendant had acted “arbitrarily and capriciously” in arriving at its decision, which was “unreasonable and unlawful."
“I am a Cripple,” when people typically hear these words, they tend to feel bad for that person, but that is exactly what Mair does not want. She prefers that people treat her the same way they would if she did not have the disease. Throughout the essay, Mair discusses her disease openly. She uses an optimistic tone, so that the reader will not recoil with sadness when they hear her discuss the disease and how it affects her life. In Nancy Mair’s essay “On Being A Cripple,” Mair uses her personal stories, diction, and syntactical structures to create an optimistic tone throughout the essay, so that the audience can better connect with the story.
I have used a wheelchair my entire life, but it wasn’t until Friday Night Lights premiered on NBC in 2008 that I ever saw a character who looked like me on television. Jason Street, whose accident precipitates the plot of the show, was the first disabled main character I had ever seen on TV. He was paralyzed, and I am not, but for the first time there was a character who reflected the daily idiosyncrasies that come from being in a wheelchair.
I will be evaluating the case of Angela and Adam. Angela is a white 17 year old female and Adam is her son who is 11 months old (Broderick, P., & Blewitt, P., 2015). According to Broderick, P., & Blewitt, P., (2015) Angela and her baby live with her mother, Sarah, in a small rental house in a semirural community in the Midwest. Adam’s father, Wayne, is estranged from the family due to Sarah refusing to allow him in the house however, Angela continues to see him without her mother’s permission which is very upsetting for Sarah. Angela dropped out of high school and struggles raising her son (Broderick, P., & Blewitt, P., 2015). The satchel on his wheelchair allows him to keep his phone, wallet, and keys intact. His electric wheelchair allows him to be mobile. Without these accessibilities, Sunshine’s engagement in many occupations would be not be successful. Although Sunshine’s inability to walk hinders his ability to participate in many occupations, his desire to be independent is what encourages him to actively participate in all of the areas of occupation.

Dateline, State - We are pleased to announce that on May 28th Emilee Iverson, a sophomore at Pittsburg State University, cleared the 5-foot-9.75 mark in the high jump to win the NCAA Division II National Championship. Emilee’s win put the Gorillas one point over St. Augustine University to give Pitt State women’s outdoor track and field their first national title.
I began to wonder where and how therapeutic riding originated. In my research I found that therapeutic riding was not taken seriously until Liz Hartel, a Danish rider who had paralysis from poliomyelitis, advanced to competitive riding. Despite the fact that Liz suffered from poliomyelitis, she “went on to win a silver medal in the Grand Prix Dressage competition at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games” (Young). After she won this great achievement, an interest around the world in the therapeutic effects of riding emerged; as a result, therapeutic riding programs were established and studies were initiated (Young). I think it is ironic how a person with a disability is so influential in helping other people with disabilities.
Kevin uses his imagination to minimize his disability in his every day life. In Preschool Kevin would march around the school with his leg braces and use his imagination to pretend that he was a robot. The fact that he uses his imagination to see his leg braces as “astounding” is a great example of Kevin using his imagination to minimize his disability.
Chloe Valentine lived in Ingle Farm with her mother Ashlee Polkinghorne, 23 and her mother’s partner Benjamin McPartland, 28 . Together they thought it was a good joke to force Chloe to drive a motorbike three times her weight . The motorbike was a 50cc dirt bike of 50kg while Chloe only weighed 17kg . Chloe’s estimated speed on the motorbike while driving was 40km/hr . During this time she became unconscious after falling off the motorbike numerous times and was only submitted into the Women’s and Children’s Hospital eight hours and a half after the incident . Shortly after submitting Chloe into hospital, Ashlee Polkinghorne had left and Chloe valentine died on January 20th 2012 .
In her article “Unspeakable Conversations” author Harriet McBryde Johnson took time to inform and familiarize her readers with the details and limitations placed upon her by her disability. In her article she walked her readers through her morning routine. She told them about the assistance she needs in the morning from transferring from bed to wheelchair, to morning stretches, to bathing, to dressing, to braiding her hair. She does this not to evoke pity but to give her readers a glimpse into her world. She wants her readers to know that the quality of a disabled person’s life relies solely on another’s willingness to assist. Because those with disabilities need assistance they are often viewed as burdens. Therefore, they see themselves as
Rosa Lee Cunningham is a 52-year old African American female. She is 5-foot-1-inch, 145 pounds. Rosa Lee is married however, is living separately from her husband. She has eight adult children, Bobby, Richard, Ronnie, Donna (Patty), Alvin, Eric, Donald (Ducky) and one child who name she did not disclose. She bore her eldest child at age fourteen and six different men fathered her children. At Rosa Lee’s recent hospital admission to Howard University Hospital emergency room blood test revealed she is still using heroin. Though Rosa Lee recently enrolled in a drug-treatment program it does not appear that she has any intention on ending her drug usage. When asked why she no longer uses heroin she stated she doesn’t always have the resources to support her addiction. Rosa Lee is unemployed and receiving very little in government assistance. The primary diagnosis for Amanda Anderson is separation anxiety disorder (SAD) with a co-morbidity of school phobia. Separation anxiety disorder is commonly the precursor to school phobia, which is “one of the two most common anxiety disorders to occur during childhood, and is found in about 4% to 10% of all children” (Mash & Wolfe, 2010, p. 198). Amanda is a seven-year-old girl and her anxiety significantly affects her social life. Based on the case study, Amanda’s father informs the therapist that Amanda is extremely dependent on her mother and she is unenthusiastic when separated from her mother. Amanda was sitting on her mother’s lap when the therapist walked in the room to take Amanda in her office for an interview (Morgan, 1999, p. 1).

For some people business names come easily while for others, finding the right name is a big challenge. Some people suggest a business name should be descriptive of the business while others suggest a name should be unique as it is the best way to be remembered.
