The importance of caregiver attachments have many implications on how a child develops. Children are able to handle stress better. The children are more adept at making relationships and expressing themselves, language lines up with their emotions. They feel at ease with interacting with new and unfamiliar things. The attachment to the care giver helps to build a sense of self-worth and an inner stability. Positive attachment bonds are much more than just being nice to the child. Strong bonds are formed by not only reaffirming the child but also by take care of the child by feeding and sheltering the individual. The caregiver learns to read the different stages of emotions of the child by nonverbal cues. The attachment proceeds to a place of mindfulness and being in the now. The ability to letting the child cope with feelings is extremely important also. Grief, stress, and anxiety can form hurdles to the ability of the child to form bonds and it is important to help the child learn to cope with these obstacles. Likewise if the caregiver is feeling these types of things, this will also hinder the progress of making the secure attachment. The child will sometimes feel the negative feelings of the caregiver or if the caregiver cannot get in the moment with the child the progress will sometimes not only be hindered but will regress. Some statistics show that a bond isn’t always an issue with the progress of a child. Some authorities believe it to be genetics that determine how a child copes with his or her surroundings. I believe that giving the child any ability to get a better grasp on life and helping them not only cope but to enjoy is my primary goal as a youth care worker.
