Plot
The Wapshot Chronicle is the story of a family who live in the small town of St. Botolphs, Massachusetts, and their adventures. There are a number of significant events in the story. One very important event is when Moses Wapshot leaves to go to Washington D.C. Moses’ brother, Coverly, sneaks onto the train and leaves with him. This is when the boys’ journeys begin. Their journeys are the main focus of the story. The boys’ parents do not know that Coverly left with Moses until they find a note from Coverly saying that he had done so. Moses is going to D.C. to find a job, and Coverly is going to make his way to New York City to find his aunt and uncle. Coverly plans to work for his uncle. However, when Coverly gets to New York City, he is turned down because of his lack of knowledge and his inner confusion. Another important event is when Leander Wapshot’s boat, the Topaze, sinks. Personal Relevance
The book has taught me to be happy with what I have, and not to rush life. Also, the book has taught me to help others when they are in need. If I did what Coverly did in the book, I would have a very hard time trying to find work and trying to survive. I feel I am too young to work to support myself, and I have no money for food or shelter. Honora Wapshot taught me the importance of helping other people when they are in need. She lets a stranger into her house just because that person is in a horrible accident and needs help. This was a very kind and generous thing to do.
