BSPH Statement of Interest Public health expert, C.E.A. Winslow, defined public health as "the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals”. Just like many other words or subjects, the definition of public health can vary from person to person, or even from place to place. However, no matter what definition you stumble upon, they will all have something in common; helping individuals, communities, and the population as a whole. Public health has always been, and will always be, about helping people – and that is my passion, as well. Before graduating with my Bachelor of Science …show more content…
After having assessed the overall well-being of a population, this core function of Public Health would then weigh whether or not the community in question has adequate resources needed for their health problems. In my opinion, this core function of Public Health relates a lot back to epidemiology, specifically applied epidemiology. As I noted before, applied epidemiologists are focused on the investigation of certain diseases, and their risk factors. Through assessment, applied epidemiologist would be able to evaluate specific health hazards that lie in a population and if they have the means to manage …show more content…
First, like most other students, I procrastinate way too often. This is one of my academic shortcomings. For example, the week that Bachelor of Science in Public Health application was due, I also had three other papers and two tests due in the same week. Now, the smart side of me told me to start my assignments, especially my BSPH statement of interest, weeks ago so it would not all run together. With that being said, the typical college student in me politely declined to start any of my assignments early; so, here I am. My week has consisted of no sleep and many, many cups of coffee. Thank you
According to Allender, Rector, and Warner (2014), public health is a combination of both an art and a science (2014). The mission of public health nursing is to promote health, prevent disease and ultimately prolong life (Allender et al., 2014). In order for this to occur an assessment must take place. An aggregate or community assessment begins with a collection of data. This includes: the community’s health needs, risks, environmental conditions, financial resources through local census data, and a windshield survey (Allender et al., 2014). Through public health nursing, communities can collectively come together to help promote an overall better health standing.

For students, specifically myself, procrastination happens more that I would like to admit, being able to manage my time and work homework and projects into my schedule is crucial to maintaining my grades. Freshman Seminar expressed this importance through two items, the first being the ‘4 Year Course Plan’ assignment and the second being due dates on the assignments themselves. The ‘4 Year Course Plan’ allowed for me to assess my current standing at Capitol Technology University and plan out my future. With my next four years planned out I am able to see what I need to get done and determine how my next four years may play out. While the due dates for the assignments allowed for me to get a healthy and average level of stress due to course load. This stress level motivated me to get my work done on time and effectively as I needed to ensure time for other class work and
The key activity of PMH is to help expand the accessibility of care to the individuals from the region through the proposed satellite center. This vital choice enables the association to concentrate on qualities, for example, the high proportion of doctors to the patient and the longing to help make sound ways of life for their patients. At that point utilize that edge and proceed forward to help beat the beforehand specified shortcomings or dangers. The facility bolsters all partners by giving consideration to group individuals, gives employer stability to representatives, and enables the group to beat the well-being challenges the group faces. Here and now gets ready for usage. All together for the arrangement to be fruitful, there are a
B-24. Since there were apparently at least three deaths in the year prior to the major explosion, and an average of about one employee death per 16 months for the previous 10 years, how would you account for the fact that mandatory OSHA inspections missed these glaring sources of potential catastrophic events?
‘The imperative of health’ looks at the development of the public health. The book focusses on health promotion and discusses the principles and assumptions of public health. The author of the book, Deborah Lupton, believes that current public health research tends to underestimate the humanistic, critical, theoretical and interpretive approaches. Therefore, ‘The imperative of health’ analyses public health by combining cultural, historical, sociological and anthropological approaches. Deborah Lupton believes that public health is dependent of political and social circumstances and is therefore changing in time and space. Deborah Lupton does not belief this is clear to everyone. Therefore the purpose of the book is to reject current beliefs in health promotion. This way Deborah Lupton...
I have chosen Public Health as my career path because I have a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve their goals. Also, I chose healthcare as a career because health does not only focus on the physical aspects of wellness, but it applies to all areas of wellness, such as, intellectual, social, spiritual, financial, occupational, environmental and emotional wellness. Moreover, Public Health is a challenging, diverse and dynamic field. My philosophy of health is very simple, to prevent, improve and educate the lives of individuals, families, communities and the population. Besides, there is no safer way to touch people’s lives than through public
The reading defines public health as “the science of protecting and improving the health of communities thru education and research, for disease and injury prevention, and promotion of healthy lifestyles.” In other words, public health is the ways in which we can improve health in our communities through a variety of methods. Public health is relevant to everyone and plays a major role in everyone’s life. While attending UC Berkeley, I am actively participating and enjoying the aids of public health policy at the university. Five instances in which I interacted with these benefits directly during this week was through the use of a vaccination, reading nutritional facts, putting on a seatbelt, receiving emails from the Tang Center, and finally by attending a smoke free campus school zone.
Public health programs are designed to protect and improve the health of communities, which could be as small as a local neighborhood or as large as an entire state or country ("What is Public Health,"
Public health is often described as having the population or community as its patient, in contrast to the individual-level focus of clinical medicine. The more focus on the community creates a natural foundation for team building between public health and anthropology. This becomes the primary focus on the study of people in groups, and especially in local communities. WHO(1948) defines Public health as the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals. Wolf (1994) defines anthropology as the study of humankind, past and present.
As a freshman, I was conflicted about what I wanted out of college. At the time, I naively believed that I would major in Neuroscience and Arabic while completing plenty of biomedical research on the side. Perhaps I would also sign up for a few clubs here and there and thus produce the perfect resume for medical school. In the following year, I realized that my heart was not into the breakneck agenda I planned for myself and I started to reevaluate just what exactly I wanted to pursue in my undergraduate experience. With the aid of many advising sessions I gained a clearer picture of my passions, which as I had come to realize, were what I truly wanted to work towards. Among my interests is Global Health -- in particular, I wish to learn more

The Schulich Interfaculty MPH Program emphasizes public health leadership, policy and sustainability. What are your career aspirations in public health and how will our MPH facilitate these aspirations?
The importance is to get an understanding of classes by which I am able to adopt principals in life. Partially this finding made me start doing a lot more research for my individual assignments. I believe that I am now heading into the right direction to use the knowledge I can get from class and from the textbooks effectively. I am also improving in managing my time and activities – which as I had discussed – is the most difficult thing in my life as a student. Because of pursuing my extracurricular passions I had a tendency to procrastinate the tasks given during the courses. I was in a logical fallacy with myself: I decided to not like my assignments for they take too much time before getting to know them. To some extent, however, procrastination had a stimulating effect on me. To quote one of my favourite cartoons, Calvin and Hobbes “Do you have any idea of your story yet? / No, I am waiting for inspiration. You can’t just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in the right mood. / What mood is that? / Last minute panic.” Now this illustrates how I worked for a period of time, before I realised that it won’t pay up in the long run. So I took effort and try to discipline myself to prepare well before my assignments and I hope to be awarded for it. But now, as I reflect on my performance during this semester I see that I am capable of working under
