Episode 2 - Autism versus the Blackout
(A slug-like alien has intruded upon the ship and turned off the power so the ship won 't move. Team D and Evan Thomas, the captain 's assistant (hacker), have to go into the inner workings of their ship and find the slug-like alien (Gev) to defeat him and regain control of the ship. Gev was paid by the main antagonist (the leader of the bad aliens) and he 's psychotic. The teams go with the captain 's assistant, Evan Thomas. Gev destroys the power source, but the power source was a decoy. Gev is imprisoned. They regain control of their ship.
Holographic Voice: Jason South. Game over.
Jason: You 're kidding!
Rex (knocks out the holographic enemy that just shoved Jason): That 's 97! That 's 97!
Caleb: Dude, brag much?
Rex (overhearing): What?

(Vigorous, wide-eyed nodding of heads. Low beatboxing sounds are heard in the background.)
Evan (to Rex): Quit bebopping!
Rex (clears throat): Beatboxing. Sorry. Sometimes I do that when I 'm nervous.
(A speedy, slimy, slithering sound, like an annoying slurp, scuttles its way across the ceiling.)
Evan (looking up at the ceiling): Whatever the creature is, it just came from the generator room where it shut off power to the ship.
Nikki (whispering): Well, then where is it going now?
Evan (gravely): I don 't know, but we better find out. Don 't worry guys, I have a plan.
(Pan to Team 27. They wake up all their living quarters, wondering what 's going on. They swore they heard something moving around, but they don 't know where the sound came from.)
Garzinn: Is this a new challenge?
Zajueelee (giving him a look): What are you talking about? We 're not being trained.
Garzinn: So, maybe we 're starting now.
Roshe (shakily pants): W..what what is going on? What?
Garzinn: I think they trapped us in here!
Zajueelee: Who?
Garzinn: Oh, I don 't know. Maybe the people who RESCUED us!?
Zajueelee: Good
Everything is criticized at every level in this story, the people by the main character, the main character by the author and even the story by the author as well. The cruel egoistic personality of Anders is definitely identifiable through these different levels of criticism. I will prove that the inner motivation of this behaviour derives from Anders' egoistic personality which sometimes makes him cruel against others, sometimes against himself. Furthermore, I will prove that whenever Anders criticizes somebody or something he actually tries to punish because of the imperfectness of the object. In order to make the referring to the different part of the story easier I divide it into three parts. The first part ends when the robbers appear at the door of the bank, the second ends when one of the robbers shoots at Anders and the left is the third part.
In the article “The Coddling of the American Mind” the authors Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt express that college campuses in America are dealing with emotional discomfort every day. They point out whether we are too emotional on certain topics in our lives or we need to change something on college campuses to have students feel more comfortable. College student have experienced a lot in life so I think that campuses should help college students through traumatic experiences in their past instead of not acknowledging certain topics and banning them to discuss in class like rape and domestic violence which happens in our everyday life. Colleges need to step up and talk about these things so students can feel more comfortable.
In Thinking in Pictures: My Life with Autism By Temple Grandin, the center of novel surrounds Grandin’s life and how autism impacted her career at a very young age. The book includes references to extensive reviews of research pertaining to effects of autism and possible treatment options. Grandin (2006) articulates how the word “autism” still conveys a fixed and dreadful meaning to most people (p.1). Therefore, she was able to embrace her visual ways of thinking, ultimately being an inspiration to others. With insight from her personal experience, readers have a better understanding of what is like working with individuals who have physical impairments. However, this paper will focus on how Grandin’s autistic ability affected her relationships
Before starting this reading assignment I never thought to question why I make the decisions I do in such a short amount of time. After reading Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, written by Malcolm Gladwell I have a better understanding of how we as individuals perceive and react to information. This book provides insight on how to critically asses and understand the way our minds operate on a deeper level. The book consists of 6 chapters, each providing insight on how the decision making process works and how it affects what we do with every second of the day. Throughout each chapter there are subsections with personal stories, case studies, or examples that help provide an alternative view on how the decision making process is carried out under normal circumstances.

Many people feel that educated decisions are the best ones, that the more you study, the more you know. Blink, written by Malcolm Gladwell, challenges that notion. He wishes to alter the belief of the average person, and writes with the “desire to push the world in a certain direction, to alter other people’s idea of the kind of society that they should strive after.” Most people in today’s society would much rather trust the decision that comes with a plethora of meticulous research, analysis, and studying to back it up. Malcolm Gladwell’s purpose is to convince us of just the opposite: that sometimes, even against more rational judgement, our split-second decisions are the best. According to the article "Autism" the author stated that, " Early studies suggested that five children out of 10,000 had Autism Spectrum Disorder." Also, in the same article the author states that, " People with Autism have problems with communication and social interaction." I believe that people should be much more understanding and tolerant of people with Autism. Those people have disadvantages , such as : difficulty with language , which they make up with advantages , such as : putting clues together , and having the unique interest and talents , as my amazing brother Ted.
Autism is a neurological developmental disability that affects a person’s behavior and communication skills (AutismResearchNetwork.org). Commonly, those with Autism are diagnosed very early in childhood. Autism is the fastest- growing developmental disability known, with its prevalence appearing in 1 out of every 68 births (www.autismspeaks.org). The autism spectrum is so large, ranging from mild to severe symptoms, that no two people diagnosed are alike. With autism being the most common disorder among the human race (www.webmd.com), doctors and science, have come together to improve the technology in helping those with autism in many ways. New advancements have been developed to diagnose autism earlier, help create more successful treatments, and to help better an educational plan for people with autism. There are many theories but no known single cause for autism. There are also many treatments but no known cure for autism. In my paper, I am going to review the technology aspect into this disorder. Technology has enhanced different treatments, enabled earlier diagnoses, and furthered education levels in those with autism. The focus of my report will be on these three categories; diagnoses, treatments and education.
Before completing the assignment of reading “Thinking in Pictures,” by Temple Grandin, I did not have much knowledge about autism. My only understanding was autism was some sort of neurological disorder that is seen similar to mentally handicapped individuals to someone with little understanding, like myself. I am very thankful to have been given an assignment like this one that gives me more knowledge of something I should already have in my line of work (though I am sure that was the whole purpose of the assignment, to educate the ignorant). I now have a better understanding of the cause, learning process and functioning of different levels of this defect.
What is Autism? People are quick to label people as Autistic but very rarely understand what it means though they may nod their head and say "ohh makes sense". Autism - also know as ASD, Autism Spectrum Disorder- is a complex developmental disorder affecting primarily ones communication and social interaction skills. Meaning they have difficulties communicating effectively or even at all. They struggle in social setting and don 't typically excel in social games or activities.
