For as long as I could remember, I have always been interested in the way things work in the world around me. Naturally, my curiosity in these things led me to love all things science related. My favorite subjects throughout my educational pathway this far have been in the sciences. Because I enjoyed them more than other classes, I was more engaged and eager to learn. When it came time to decide on a career I knew that I wanted it to be in the science field.

I selected biology as my major because I figured that I would be able to decide what I wanted to do and then would narrow it down thru the first years in college. The scope of practice for occupational therapy within these settings has allowed me to be exposed to many branches of medicine including critical care, cardiopulmonary, orthopedics, pediatrics, neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics, mental health, industrial medicine, general medicine, and surgery, all of which have their different intricacies in their approach to treatment. I am confident that I have made the correct decision for my career choice and I find it hard imagining working in another field. I can see how we can definitely impact a patient's life by providing Occupational Therapy not only to improve overall ADL care and upper extremity function but also by analyzing situations, providing solutions by adapting or modifying necessary tools/kits, develop stress management or interpersonal skills, improve ergonomics, providing seating & mobility with wheelchairs, or working with visual impairments, to overall improve and help individuals achieve their highest level of independence. I look into a career to decide on I realized how rewarding it will be to work with patients to help them gain their strength back to perform their activities of daily living, provide tools to make those tasks they cannot accomplish to achieve their independence possible thus restoring their confidence and so contribute to their emotional wellbeing
