Beowulf does not qualify as a mythic hero by Campbell’s terms in The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Beowulf has no love interest or a temptation to over come, like in The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell. Beowulf follows many of the steps Campbell states it takes to make a hero but not quite all of them.
To start off Campbell has many qualifications on what makes and what doesn’t make a hero, in his literature The Hero with a Thousand Faces, but that is only Campbell’s opinion of what makes a hero, a Hero. Campbell’s literature is the “classic hero” that most storybooks think up, where the implications are, the hero faces trials, overcomes temptation, falls in love, the basics; as where Beowulf does face trials, he has no love interest
