The benefits of starting with the definitions of relevant terms is that fact that it can bring up more things related to transgender issues that some people may not have known about. It is important to know all the “players” before understanding how they are interact with and relate to each other. What is the point of knowing who does what if you don’t even know what “who” or “what” even mean. Since it is important not to accidentally use derogatory terms when discussing this somewhat sensitive issue, it would be beneficial to know what the correct terms to use are and their proper meanings. A problem that arises from all the terminology is the fact the transgender community isn’t one hundred percent on the same page when it comes to what terms should be used to describe member of their community and what are considered inappropriate or slurs (Serano, 2016). This can be ridiculously confusing to someone who is just becoming more educated about transgender people and wishes not to upset anyone by using the wrong terms. It is also a bit difficult seeing as how some terms can be easily confused for the other since they are very connected to the same topic. This can cause problems and a rift between bigender and other transgender people who do go along with the binary. This theory views genders as artificial and in a way not natural which could easily lead to the idea that those who are bigender are correct in their identities and those who conform (including other members of the transgender community) to be going along with what they are taught instead of who they “should be”.
