Bravery-quality or state of being brave. Brave-to face or endure with courage. Bravery or being brave is important because it shows character along with overcoming fear. An example of bravery or being brave would be the Apollo space flight crews. They were brave enough to go into space where no man had gone before in a race against the Soviets. An example from literature would be “Clever Class”, a chapter in Malala Yousafzai’s book. Going to school where the Taliban were in control was dangerous for girls, because the Taliban thought that women should only stay at home to clean and cook. The Taliban thought that girls shouldn’t go to school, so when they found out about Malala speaking about girls going to school they shot her. Malala shows bravery that even though she was shot, she still speaks about women and girl’s educational rights. “ ‘Are you scared now?’ I asked my father. ‘At night our fear is strong Jani’ he told me, ‘but in the morning, in the light, we find our courage again.’ And this is true for my family. We were scared, but our fear was not as strong as our courage.” In other words this excerpt shows bravery because although they were scared of the Taliban, they would not show it and be brave. “My father would say to me, ‘Any organization which works for peace, I will join. If you want to resolve a dispute or come out of conflict, the very first thing is to speak the truth. If you have a headache and you tell the doctor you have a stomachache, how is the doctor supposed to help? You must speak the truth. The truth will abolish fear.” In this example it says “Truth will abolish fear.” If they speak the truth, fear will be abolished but in their case they have to be brave to speak the …show more content…

Melba Pattillo Beals was part of the Little Rock 9. The Little Rock 9 was a group of african-american students that integrated into Little Rock Central High School. Little Rock Central High School was an all white school and the governor of Arkansas wanted to keep it that way. Eventually the President got involved and sent the students guards to lead them into the school. “ I wanted to turn and run away, but I thought about what Danny had said : “Warriors survive.” I tried to remember his stance, his attitude, and courage of the 101st on the battlefield. Comparing my tiny challenge with what he must have faced made me more confident. I told myself I could handle whatever the segregationists had in store for me.” Melba remembered Danny who showed bravery before when she had to face something she feared herself. That gave her the ability to be brave. “ I heard the words come out of my mouth but I could hardly believe it was me speaking.” She was being brave without even thinking about it. She was speaking up for her and her friends. Melba tried before but this was the last time she wanted to talk about the same problem, yet she was brave and made sure her point was
