Band Concert: Band And Tryout

November 21st, 2016, it was the first night of basketball tryouts and also the same night of my band concert. All during the school day my mind was constantly pacing. Yo, how is this gonna work! Don’t I just have to best of luck? A band concert and tryouts on the same night! I spent most of this day debating whether band or basketball was more important to me. I had decided that it was a toss up. Eventually, I decided, I would be able to make both only if I left tryouts early and headed to the concert. That night, midway through tryouts, I headed over to the coaches and told them I had to leave for a band concert. In band, our end product of working so hard on our music are concerts. Even though there are typically four concerts, they feel very long when I’m not playing. Worst part of all is that concert band gets to play at the very end. In addition, the attire for the concert is real formal. I’m talking tuxedos, dress shoes, cummerbands, and everything else. Not necessarily the most comfort clothing. Concerts are filled with parents and other family members. Most faces I’m familiar with from past concerts and a few new ones. After the concert is over, the pieces I’ve played during the concert are hardly ever worked on again. Similarly to band we do show off the hard work we put in during practices, during games. I have a lot of basketball game; so many I almost lose track. Varsity plays at the end of the night but unlike band, we aren’t required to watch lower level teams play. Also unlike band, I get to dress much more comfortably. Just shorts, a jersey, and basketball shoes. The bleachers in the gym of filled with fellow students and parents of players. Crowds are different each game, so sometimes people in the bleachers are strangers to me. When the game is over, win or lose, I know the next day I’ll have to watch film and …show more content…

These two things, although they have differences, have both taught me a lot about work ethic, discipline, and maturation. I’ve had to work extremely hard to be at the level I’m at. Seeing the hard work pay off has enabled me to want to take on different activities that I view as challenging. It takes a certain amount of maturity and discipline to constantly keep focus and locked in when working on getting better. The traits that I have gained are traits that can I can apply in other aspects of life. Whether it be school, work, or personal life, applying these traits will be beneficial and will pave opportunities for me in the near
