There are many environmental factors militating against every business organization. Some of these factors are briefly explained as follows.
GLOBAL COMPETITION IN THE INDUSTRY
Much more like any industry, the American Automobile industry is subject to global competition. According to history automobile was first perfected in France and Germany. In 1995, the United States and Japan made a trade agreement that provides more dealer outlets and allowed easier replacement and parts selling in each other countries (Nauss 1995). Nowadays we have gas, electric, and battery. “The typical automobile contains a lead acid battery which can be returned manufacturers who recover and recycle of the lead. Nonetheless the remaining accounts for 42,000 tons of lead release into the environment. (Complicating the problem is the fact that automobile recyclers and dismantlers may fail to remove and properly handle lead batteries from unwanted vehicles. This could be the result of insufficient enforcement or information deficiencies that accompany language barriers or lack of guidance ,(US EPA 2015). And what makes matters worse is that “there exists little information on how to identify and safely dispose of these materials , (US EPA 2015). Although cars tend to be powered through batteries, gas, electric means and such there are still many new technologies within the automobiles. ! For example, many cars now have cameras to see what is behind them as well as in their blind spots ma3ing safe driving much easier. The United States recession (which lead to a world recession), began in 1997 and significantly impacted the United States automobile industry during the recession period. The United States automobile industry is still reeling from the effects of the recession throughout the period of economic recovery that continues today. According to Chu and Su, “In this credit-driven recession, one of the hardest hit sectors was the automotive industry, along with the housing and financial markets. Chrysler and General Motors were pushed into bankruptcy; and 276,000 jobs in the automobile and parts industry were destroyed, a whopping 36 percent of the total employment in the sector”.
The Auto Zone industry responded very well with change in its macroenvironment. According to Parnell, “macroenvironment is the general environment that affects all business firms in an industry and includes political-legal, economic, social, and technological forces” (Parnell, p. 93). Auto Zone industry did not have a tremendous downfall. The do-for-me business gave AutoZone gave an increase in the industry’s growth rate.
Increasing environmental awareness, coupled with a responsible American government and improved technology, have all contributed to the comeback of low-and zero-emissions vehicles in the US. It remains to be seen whether the automakers and oil companies will once again work to halt this progress, or embrace it as the technology of a more responsible future.

The industry environment includes factors that have more of a direct influence on a company’s business such as entry barriers, competitor rivalry, the availability of substitutes, and the bargaining power of buyers and suppliers.

Purchasing a car is one of the hugest or biggest accomplishments that a person can achieve on their own. However, what happens when that purchase turns out to also be the worst decision that was ever made? The substantial increase in the demand for EV’s came just in time as we are slowly but surely running out of oil. Some estimate that by the year 2040, 35 percent of all vehicles will be electric (Sullins, 2017). An article from the U.S. Department of Energy stated that “Electric vehicles hold a lot of potential for helping the U.S. create a more sustainable future. If the U.S. transitioned all the light-duty vehicles to hybrids or plug-in electric vehicles, we could reduce our dependence on foreign oil by 30-60 percent, while lowering the carbon pollution from the transportation sector by as much as 20 percent (energy.gov, 2014). It’s obvious that gas-powered vehicles have harmed our planet with their emissions. Although EV’s cannot reverse that damage that has been done, they can eliminate, or at least slow down, the inevitable demise that our planet is headed towards. Along with the beneficial environmental factors that correspond with electric cars, there are also beneficial financial factors. The average American spends about $2,000 on gas annually. Environmentally Friendly Electric vehicles are today’s zero-emission vehicles. They have no tailpipes and emit no pollutants. Instead of gasoline from oil refineries, electric vehicles get their “fuel” from electric power stations. Although power plants using fossil fuels do have emissions, power plant emissions generated for electric vehicle use are typically much lower than emissions from the comparable use of gasoline-powered cars. For power plants using renewable energy sources like wind, solar and hydropower, no air pollution is created.
Environmental factors cater for the protection of the environment. A business must carefully be able to look at its surroundings to see for benefits and ensure that its daily production does not interfere with society.
