Athletes Are Overcoming Obstacles

You are capable of more than you think. This mindset helps you accomplish things you never thought you could. It also gets you through tough challenges. Most athletes, however, sink under pressure. They think negatively, which changes their mindset to believe they are incapable of success. Everyone faces challenges, but how you handle them determines your outcome. I believe athletes are their own worse obstacles because of fear, temptation, and excuses. As Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” (brainyquote). For athletes, what does that mean? In all sports you see participants holding back from what they can actually do, but why? Failing is the number one fear athletes have (psychologytoday). The athletes who want to succeed do everything in their power to prepare themselves. The athletes, who go through the motions, prepare themselves too, but they are thinking of what they are going to say. They always have a reason as to why they cannot do something (webmd). Some of their motives stem from fear, or temptation; therefore, some of their excuses would consist of: “I am tired,” “I am not feeling one hundred percent today,” or “I do not have enough time” (webmd). Every participant in the sports world has heard, or told these three excuses. They are the easiest to succumb to whether they are being told, or heard because they are the most likely to be believed. Once they are told a story will go with it, but why go through all the trouble of coming up with an excuse when you could be making yourself better? In all reality those who want to succeed will prioritize to find time, will not complain if they are exhausted, and will be motivated enough to get through whatever competition or workout they need to.
