What is Arts and Play? Well it is a multitude of different activities that a person performs. Some of those activities include: dance, drawling, acting something out, imagining something, singing, writing, drama, crochet, knitting, ect. However, in this writing situation it is not just about Arts and Play, it is about how Art and Play experiences influenced my life, and how they will influence me as an educator. To start I will explain what type of play and art I experienced as a child. As far back as I can remember I always colored in coloring books. We had a wide variety of crayons, markers, and colored pencils to color with and drawl with. I always preferred the markers or colored pencils I hated crayons. I would use chalk and drawl on a board at home, I would pass out books to imaginary students, and even make up fake tests and homework assignments. I would do that more then anything else when I was home. I loved pretending I was a teacher. Other examples of imaginary play that I enjoyed would be pretending I was a waitress. I had a fake kitchen set that I would use and my customers would be my little brothers or the dolls I had. I would make foods, and poor drinks and try and write orders down on notepads that my mom bought us to play on. I can say that by looking back at all the experiences I had in playing with toys, and experiencing different forms of art in my lifetime and how they influenced me. They are some of the best times I had, and they helped me develop many skills that children and even adults need. Playing with balls, art supplies, drawling, coloring, playing with instruments all helped me develop fine motor skills. Helped me learn different mechanics of writing and reading. They helped me learn to calm myself and organize my thoughts. Arts and Play assisted me in learning to keep trying, and use my imagination to explore different ideas and concepts. I personally believe that all aspects of the Arts and Play are influential in the education system.
