Arguments Against Video Game Chess

Argument paper The board game chess is considered a sport, so if chess is a nonphysical activity such as chess is could a sport then why can’t videogames be.

That sounds very unfair to me. People say that videogames should not be a sport because it has no physical activity in it, but what they don’t know is how much practice, skill, and strategy needed to be good at a videogame.

The bored cChess is not a physical activity but the game is called a sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) the IOC says “chess and bridge are among 26 sports that have applied for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo. ” and over 100 countries in the world. Just like how a pro basketball player can’t go on the court and not know all of the rules of the game, or how a person can’t play professional chess without knowing how the chess pieces move. Gamers need to know the rules of the game they are playing and what they can do in order to win the game.

Other people might say that videogames should not be a sport because of the lack of physical movement. Andrew Wang says “Sports have long since been considered a primarily physical activity. Since ancient Greece, sports have been primarily a contest of physical and mental strength. We can see this evident in the first games hosted in the Olympics. Running. Jumping. Wrestling. All highly physical contests of strength and stamina.” He is saying in order for an activity to be a sport the activity has to be physical. Although people say this, videogames still should be considered a sport because videogames are mental, they are mind game.

In conclusion videogames should be a sport because videogames have the same aspect of practicing and learning just like the games football or basketball. And it is also just not fair that nonphysical games like chess and poker can be called a sport but videogames
