They have given people hope in times of severe turmoil and they encourage bravery and persistence. Superheroes are people we can look up to. They never surrender, they never fear anything or anyone, and they always know exactly what to do. Did Lex Luthor just give up? Of course not! Superman had to defeat his arch-rival with great perseverance. Batman doesn’t let The Joker run around town every time he breaks out of the asylum! He captures him and puts him right back in there. Since superheroes have powers, they can do more than the police or other government officers. Having heroes in our society would take a ton of stress off the government, and they would be able to focus on more important issues. Aside from helping the government, with superheroes in the community, more people can have hope. They would not just be in the United States, they would be everywhere! Impoverished children in Ecuador would have someone to look up to – something to live for. Superheroes are people everyone can relate to, and they can create awareness for a ton of causes. For example, the Agents of Autism go around helping autistic kids who cannot help themselves and are struggling with their own sense of autism (Agents of Autism). Sure, we have all heard of the great tales told by Marvel and DC Universe, but what about the superheroes in our communities who don’t get attention? The superheroes who never get recognized are the superheroes who should be getting the most credit. The Sloth Lady, Monique Pool, dedicated herself to helping wild animals in Suriname, a country in South America. Pool rescued, rehabilitated, and released hundreds of sloths and other animals back to the rainforest. Pool has been rescuing sloths since 2005 when she learned a baby sloth had been orphaned at the Animal Protection society. She had no idea what she was doing, but she offered to take it in.
