Should Healthcare be Free? What is health-care? Is it a right or a need? There is a big difference between both , a need is expressing necessity or obligation, and a right is something that can neither be bestowed by a government nor abrogated by it, such as rights to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Health care is a basic need that everyone is free to pursue. This means that the government cannot infringe on our right to pursue health care, but no one owes us health care. Health care is a good just like food, clothing, and shelter. So therefore, healthcare should ultimately be up the consumer and not others. Those who reject the idea that health care is a right are not dismissing the importance of health care. Health care is too important to be left to the federal government. Anti State funded health-care activists are often accused of being selfish, greedy people.There is nothing great about spending other people’s money without their consent, no matter the cause. In 2014, about $45.9 Billion dollars were spent because of uninsured patients who do not pay their medical bills, so therefore hospitals and taxpayers are the ones who must pick up the tab (Lange).. Just like an automobile, we all want the nicest car out there, but we don't want to spend big bucks on it, that's how Americans look at healthcare. Healthcare professionals are all going to take an oath to do everything in their power to provide the best of care regardless of faith, color, sexuality and etc , but also the cost of college tuition and residency is not cheap. The average physician comes out with $166,750 in medical school debt, while average salaries are declining, nearly one-third of doctors have taken a pay cut (Mays). Doctors and medical staff must somehow pay off their debts, so if you make health care free to the general public, you're going to discourage future doctors or nurses from doing so. Why? Because they aren't going to see the point in perusing a long and expensive process of becoming a doctor, if they aren't going to reap the benefits doctors in the past once
