One of my friends who went to college 25 years ago still has huge loans from college, hanging over his head. Many college students who experienced the same misfortune as my friend think American college education is too expensive. According to the college board, the tuition and fees for the 2016-2017 school year was $9650 for the state-residents and $24,930 for out-of-state-residents at a public college. The best solution for the problem is to promote tuition free college, meaning the government would pay college to offer free education. Tuition free college will benefit Americans’ life,the economy, and health, as it already has benefited many other countries.
The government should offer free education because students will be more motivated to go to college and live a better life. It would allow more students to leave college without burdening loans. The website, Investment Advisor noted that 83% of Americans cannot afford college without loans. This means that if a student wants to have a higher education, he or she would have to carry loans for decades. …show more content…

Some people might argue that if a student has no burden of paying loans, they might lose the motivation to work hard and pass their classes. Despite this, student loans can cause many mental illnesses. A medical website called Anxiety Coping and Stress, suggests that many ill effects, such as anxiety and depression, can surface just from accumulating student loans. This reveals that many students are becoming overstressed from debt. Thus, the anxiousness would lead to many mental and physical illness to the students. Therefore, the government should offer free education so college going students would be able to stay healthy.
