Former Governor of Maryland, Mayor of Baltimore, and City Councilor Martin O’Malley has an excellent vision for America. Despite him not being as well known as the other presidential candidates, his views take on issues that not many candidates address. O’Malley tackles issues beyond economic and immigration reforms. He wishes to make our country a better, more efficient America. Martin O’Malley’s vision and outlook for America truly makes him a Democratic candidate that is worth the vote and he will certainly “rebuild the American Dream.” O’Malley’s personality definitely sets him apart from a lot of the other candidates. A fine sense of humor accompanied with an aura of comfort, makes him a relatable individual. Humble and thankful, O’Malley …show more content…
O’Malley let minimum wage, be just that, the minimum amount of income that a person can make but can also live a comfortable life with. He wants to raise the minimum wage to fifteen dollars an hour and help our hardworking parents and students support themselves or their families. Attempting to work overtime at hard jobs that require tough labor to make ends meet, still isn’t enough to maintain a family or home. O’Malley’s vision of raising the overtime pay to one thousand dollars a week can finally help all laborers and give them the wage that they …show more content…
Other candidates wish to “build a wall” and completely shut out poor, uneducated immigrants that only wish to enter the U.S. O’Malley wants us to accept and help undocumented immigrants because of the compassionate people that Americans are. He wants America to guide them to the chance of living the American Dream. He believes that since our nation was built on immigrant ancestors that moved to America for a better chance at success, we should help the immigrants that enter our country and show them that we are not hateful and that we welcome them with open arms. These immigrants will improve our economy, expand our tax base, create jobs, and raise wages, which will benefit our country as a
Bernie Sanders, current candidate for the President of the United States, Democratic party affiliation, believes that all students deserve the opportunity to receive an affordable, quality education from the earliest stages of schooling to high-level degrees. He has sponsored bills to make public colleges and universities tuition-free, as well as to drastically reduce interest rates on student loan debt.
Bernie Sanders is running for President of the United States of America as a democratic candidate. His competition for the primary elections is Hillary Clinton, a well-known politician with plenty of experience under her belt. Bernie is running as a non-traditional candidate, which is a main factor of why his campaign is extremely successful and popular with the American people. A recent political ad released by Sander’s campaign team called “Real Change” emphasizes his family values and dedication to the working class, fighting for the votes of the average American. The ad implies Bernie is the right man for the job due to his long history of experience and commitment to the issues he believes in. This political ad illustrates how Bernie
A child of abuse and neglect, Chris McCandless awed the world with his inspiring trip across the nation to find himself in Alaska. Leaving his well off life and his problematic family behind to be true to his ideas of life. His life impacted the people who knew him well and the strangers that drove him to his haven. When the story of this young man hitch hiking across the country broke ground, it made many people question if this boy was just crazy or did he really have a true understanding on the day to day live we were living and where we were going wrong. Although some critics have conceived the idea that Chris McCandless was just a crazed mad man with schizophrenia and the unachievable idea of true happiness. Many believe he was a new
President Barack Obama has been a well-known political figure for just over 8 years; he has served two terms as the President of the United States. There has been controversy surrounding the first African American president, after his first term Obama failed to prove to America that he would fix all the things he promised to fix upon election. With his second term he has set in place his views and goals for the country. Obama’s views have been trying to benefit the overall population of American, from the poor all the way to the rich with a few subclasses in-between. During the Inauguration of his second term, won against Mitt Romney. His opponent stood for many things that were conflicting to Obamas platform, while Obama stood for rehabilitating the poor after the recession, Romney wanted to focus on tax breaks for the rich. Throughout the speech given by President Barack Obama, he outlines necessary changes in the system to benefit the people and the need for people to come together as one to have an effective country.
Chris McCandless took a gamble with his life and as a result, he lost it. McCandless was a very adventurous, free spirited, young man that chose to do anything and everything he set his mind to. He was born into a family that he did not quite fit in with, it was a family of money with no emotions for love other than that for money of course. Due to his personal issues and the rebellion of his youth McCandless decided to go on an adventure traveling to Alaska and ultimately sacrificing his life from his risk taking tendencies. Although it may be true that McCandless could potentially suffer from a type of mental illness, people should consider that he is completely sane because he ultimately just wanted to travel and find himself while doing
The United States of America’s 40th president, Ronald Wilson Reagan served as our country’s leader from 1981 to 1989. Ronald Reagan was a very strong advocate for freedom. Many and most of his speeches were related to freedom or the concept of freedom was thrown in and mentioned in the speeches. A large part of Reagan’s campaign was freedom. His beliefs on this matter did not all come from morals, Ronald Reagan’s perception of freedom came from his lifestyle of/in Christianity.
While reading “ Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer, many opinions can be formed of Chris McCandless. One, in particular, was the author's opinion which he blatantly stated on page 85. He didn't think that Chris was some reckless foolish insane idiot. He believed that competent otherwise he wouldn't have lasted so long. I agree with Krakauer, things Chris did on this journey did not show signs of some careless person. Chris was just an adventurer looking to get away from the expectations society had of him to see the world for what it really was.
Although John Kerry's race to the White House is a definite challenge that will be hard to tackle, it is one filled with fruitful returns if achieved. John Kerry will need to be an individual that sets him apart from the other running candidates by addressing key issues that are pertinent to the highest percentage of voters in the United States by learning from the past. On the other hand, as a democratic candidate, John Kerry should uphold the new democratic view of being a moderate while using the media and other mediums of communication to his full advantage to achieve support for his political platform.
Imagine a world where you are working overtime, seven days a week, yet your kids are starving. You can’t get the education you need because you don’t have the time and money to afford it, and you can’t change jobs because this is the only one you can get. Unfortunately, this is the reality for millions of Americans living today. The federal minimum wage is too low to help families, and actually mathematically speaking, too low to survive on. The quality of life for minimum wage families is terribly low, and that is unacceptable. As humans, we should be looking after others and helping the poverty come out of their continuous cycle. Raising the minimum wage would not only help families be able to afford a better quality of life, but help them to afford healthy food, get an adequate education, and invest in the necessary health care they need.
The minimum wage today has a lot of issues; some people say it is not enough to live comfortably. Many agree that there needs to be an increase in minimum wages and by doing that it can help with our issues of poverty. Statistics show that a worker who is full time and earning minimum wage makes only $15,080 a year, which is under the federal poverty line for a family of two. (Gitis, 2013) The problem with that is $15,080 is not a sufficient amount that a person can live and grow on. “A family of two can consist of a mother and son or daughter, father and son or ...
He is more interested in what the individual, the voter, can do in politics; rather than political tactics. Furthermore, Obama again presents the ideas of humanity, charity, and an eagerness to cooperate with opponents, something much needed in the current day. However, while Obama’s opinions are spot on, his solutions are idealistic; making them very unrealistic for the current world. In Chapter Two: Values, Obama wants a political scope the action plans, values, and ideas of a candidate are more important than who they are dating or what color shoes they wore.
This book is telling a story about two African American boys (Wes A and Wes P) who have the same name and grew up at same community, but they have a very different life. The author, Wes A, begins his life in a tough Baltimore neighborhood and end up as a Rhodes Scholar, Wall Streeter, and a white house fellow; The other Wes Moore begins at the same place in Baltimore , but ends up in prison for the rest of his life. Then why do they have the same experience, but still have a totally different life? I will agree here that environment (family environment, school education environment and society environment) is one of the biggest reasons for their different.
Donald Trump, as you know, is one of the more popular candidates for the 2016 Presidential election. Republicans are out to make a statement and for the most part they believe that Trump is the way to go. Something that should scare people of other parties the most is Party-based voters, which means that Republicans will vote for Trump just because he has an “R” next to his name on the ballot.
As we would expect from a democrat candidate, Michael Dukakis wants to put a stress on the importance of the social issue. He feels the american dreams slightly slipping from the reach of the average citizen. In the land of the Free, and country of all opportunity, every resident should be granted a right to a decent salary, an affordable college education. He is in favor of bringing the best out of every american, and this would call for some changes. He praises equality no matter the race, sex, or religion. He calls for an end of the yuppie era.
Politics is one of the most debated topics in the country today. With the wide variety of values present in America, it is bound to be a difficult topic to discuss. I’ve grown up in a family of democrats with religiously republican grandparents. Considering myself an Independent leaning democratic, I can usually calmly talk politics with my family. This year’s election has made any conversation surrounding politics toxic to my family and creates a large argument of one side or the other and no in between.
