It is May, 2017 gasoline prices are low, and everything seems to be going great for gasoline cars. However there is a big competitor rising, it is the electrical vehicle. Sales have risen in the last few years for electrical vehicles, the government and people seem to support it over gasoline cars. At this time the gasoline car is more convenient for its cheaper price and low cost of gasoline. But if the electric vehicles find a way to become cheaper, will they surpass gasoline cars?

Before the existence of internal combustion engines, electric automobiles also held many speed and distance records. Among the most notable of these records was the breaking of the 100 km/h (62 mph) speed barrier, by Camille Jenatzy (1868-1913) on 29 April 1899 in his 'rocket-shaped' vehicle Jamais Contente, which reached a top speed of 105.88 km/h (65.79 mph) [5].
Interest in motor vehicles increased in the late 1890s and early 1900s. Electric battery-powered taxis became available at the end of the 19th century. In 1897 in New York City, the Samuel's Electric Carriage and Wagon Company began running 12 electric cabs. The company ran until 1898 with up to 62 cabs operating until it was reformed by its financiers to form the Electric Vehicle Company [6].

However, the price on steam powered engines, either to build or maintain was incomparable to the gas powered engines. Not only was the price a problem, but the risk of a boiler explosion also kept the steam engine from becoming popular. The combustion engine continually beat out the competition, and the early American automobile pioneers like Ransom E. Olds and Henry Ford built reliable combustion engines, rejecting the ideas of steam or electrical power from the start.

It is difficult to predict which alternative fuel source America will ultimately choose, but with the premier of Nissan’s electric powered Leaf and other companies; such as Tesla Motors and Chevy, with their electric cars ready for market, the electric car may be winning the race to become the new standard for the gasoline alternative. Electric cars resolve long standing environmental issues, but it will need to maneuver around many roadblocks to become a marketable consideration for the general public. The cost of electric cars, currently on the market, makes them an impractical purchase for the average consumer. If cost is not the growing concern in today’s economy which prevents the consumer from considering this option; they may deny the technological advance due to battery storage capabilities and the inadequate infrastructure in place to refuel and provide for them.

The topic of the future has been such a popular subject all of the twentieth century, from the idea of flying cars to robots preforming surgeries. One thing that has taken the media by storm is the takeover of electric cars, and if they really are better than the classic gas guzzler. Electric cars are better than gas powered vehicles because of the miles per gallon difference, maintenance cost and environmental effects. Everyone hates when gas prices sky rocket especially during the holiday season when everyone is on the roads commuting from house to house, town to town or even state to state. On average the typical person tends to spend around $2000 on gas alone.
Most people do not know but electric vehicles are out there for people to use. They have not yet replaced the internal-combustion engine as the vehicle of choice for most but electric power does have its place in the world. Electric Vehicles are focused into two basic categories: niche markets and environmentally conscious households. These are both small parts of the economy but it is still important to note that they have been successful in some areas. There is a good chance that growth can occur from these two arenas, but only time will tell.
From this point car companies have been making promises but nothing has really come about. Hybrid cars seem to possibly be the link between gas-powered and completely battery operated. This type of automobile has been gaining popularity and hopefully convincing the entrenched public that the change might not be so hard to deal with. There has been no reason for firms to produce electric cars since the early 1900s because there was little demand for them. The demand was actually so small that firms did not even research the possibility too much. However, we can look back and understand why the electric car was initially abandoned to hopefully get a picture of what needs to be done in order to give this industry the market share it deserves.

Electric cars were recently introduced to the auto world. They are very fuel efficient while still having all the practicalities of a regular car. They are quiet and have zero emissions. They also are cheaper to maintain and cheaper to own then a gas powered car. Even though car enthusiasts dislike the idea of going fully electric, it is a very conscientious choice. Electric cars might seem like a useless form of transportation, but they offer features that help keep the Earth clean.
