It is clear that sports are big deal in our lives. They shape us as individuals and more importantly they promote gender roles and stereotypes that have negative impacts on females. It promotes a paradigm that states males are superior to females when it comes to sports. Co-ed sports can be used as a foundation to break through this paradigm and jumpstart a movement to disease these gender roles and stereotypes we place. Females don’t get equal opportunities as they don’t want to perceive as manly because of this dichotomous thinking we have. They shy away from getting into sports. This is only the first step. Research has to start somewhere and this is the foundation of that. The next step is to research about co-ed sports during teen years and maybe even professionally. This topic opens a gateway of research to be conducted because using co-ed sports at a young age can help solve a lot of questions. Youth co-ed sports are not considered serious, as they are not televised and not competitive so it is a good opportunity to introduce society to a new outlook in sports and slowly build on it. Using youth co-ed sports as way to shift the paradigm is essential to diminish these gender roles we have placed and all these stereotypes we have pegged on females and their capabilities. Using this foundation we can start to address bigger issues we see more of in media like the increasing amount of homosexual athletes and how much attention we put on the situation even though people say society is accepting of it. It also brings up the issue of the lack of televised female sports and how disengaged males are with them. Youth co-ed sports have the capability to open up many gateways and channels for society to take a leap forward for the better and challenge the views and standards we have set today and hopefully change them in the
