At least one vehicle is mandatory for a family in the United States. Having a personal vehicle saves lot of time and gives an opportunity to travel. In Kentucky, a person must have insurance to drive their vehicle. If a person is found driving without current vehicle insurance, they will be fined up to $1,000, up to 90 days jail time, or suspension of their license plate, and will be placed on “high-risk” category of drivers by their insurance company (car). If people are placed on the “high-risk” category, it will make them difficult to get insurance and even if they are approved for insurance, it will cost them double the regular amount. It is also reasonable that young people will not be able to afford their car insurance coverage and will be driving around without insurance coverage if the insurance company keep increasing their insurance premium for teenagers after each accident. It is because young people are also human beings and people who have been in an accident are also living beings, so they will drive around without insurance coverage for survival because cars are legs that take people from one place to another. It is not reasonable for young people to pay as low as $3,000 per year for liability coverage and as high as $8,000 per year for full coverage, this is insane amount of money to spend on car insurance. The amount of money that young adults pay for car insurance in a single year is more than what they get from FAFSA (Federal Grants) each year to pay for their college. Most teenagers don’t even make $6,000 per year since they have go to school full time. How will these young adults be able to pay their high car insurance premium if they got in an accident? Young people cannot have a bright future if they have to start taking out loans to pay for car insurance because by the time they finish school, their life will be full of high interest loan debts that will take their entire life paying back that money with interest. Insurance companies are punishing young adults with high insurance premium as if those young drivers committed a crime of being able to drive, so that they would go to school to gain knowledge, go to work/earn money, and sustain themselves. Education defines a person’s future and without money, it’s not possible. Money is big part of people’s life, almost everything costs money. It would be best to make the colleges free but it is understandable that college need supplies. However, individual auto insurance companies are only there to make profits.
