A major controversy to be discussed in todays society is whether or not guns are killing people or if it is the person who is in possession of the gun that is killing people. A big question many people ask is, is the person in possession of the gun mentally ill and how are they allowed to have such firearms in their possession if they do have some sort of mental illness? The country that is widely known for its firearms issue is the United States, most other countries have strict gun laws which show a decrease in mass shootings appose to the United States who have no gun laws and have an increase in mass shootings. Although many people do not believe in the term ‘guns don’t kill people, people kill people’ mainly because when you break it down “people with guns kill people” (Sirois, 2018), it is a dual action crime. The person with the gun has the mentality to do the shooting while the gun is the weapon of choice that physically causes the damage. Although people have such opinions on whether it is the guns killing people or the people killing people many can agree on gun control being stronger. No one is suggesting we completely obliterate the American fundamental, constitutional right to own a gun. We all seem to be on agreement that there are responsible, law-abiding folks who happen to own guns. It’s not being suggested that they pay the …show more content…

It also would mean not being allowed to own military grade weapons such as an AR-15 and so on. That being said they would still be allowed to own hunting rifles, in which mass shooting ratings would decrease significantly as a hunting rifle is unable to do as much destruction as a military grade can
