Here is my true opinion: School is an area where eager students take on the world by making an effort to succeed while trying to get used to being away from home, a place of peace. I don’t deserve to wake up at six o’clock to get ready, meanwhile, wishing I stayed tucked under the blanket. During the evening, I can easily study for a test the next day on my bed, wearing loose clothing, and happily eating juicy grapes from my fingertips. The opposite happens during the day when I keep my head down (not too down) and seal my lips (not too sealed) to draw attention away from myself. That being the case, I would change some regulations at school to obtain the comfortableness felt at home. Every class at my school would have a primary seating arrangement of columns to encourage space for each learner. Technology is waiting to reach its maximum quota of ways to support human life. Likewise, a computer always waits for me at my desk to hit the power button. Once I do, I am transported to the virtual society of what people would create, display, and provide to the world. A teacher can give instructions and work through these devices. Papers and pencils cannot compare to clicks and buttons. Click, I just submitted my homework. Click, I just emailed my friend a love letter. Click, I just sent a rocket flying to outer space! Have you ever felt stuck? Wherever you are, it’s the absolute last place you want to be. In the book Into the Wild, Chris McCandless feels stuck just like the average everyday person may feel. Chris finds his escape plan to the situation and feels he will free himself by going off to the wild. I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with many people very well, but he did seem somewhat incompetent, even though he survived for quite some time.
In conclusion, the ideas presented here are an overview of my personal beliefs regarding education. I expect that experience may cause me to add to, delete or otherwise alter some of these views. It is my desire to continue to learn from my instructors, peers and ultimately my students so that I may become a well-rounded and effective educator. Someday soon, I would like to be able to describe my classroom as community of learners, having produced good citizens as well as educated individuals.
It is very hard not to realize that technology has overpowered education in many ways. “Technology integration is similar to a tidal wave, growing silently in strength, then falling with an unstoppable roar upon those who paid no attention or showed little interest” (Guhlin, 40). Nowadays, computers are almost considered a necessity in the classroom, and are the main component of technology integration. Computers are being used in more numerous ways, besides only being used for basic word processing. With a simple computer, copious availabilities of technologies can be used in the classroom. “The one thing that is so great about the computer is that it does give a lot of instruction--and you don't need to have hearing to take advantage of it” (Anderson, 12). It’s amazing how one simple screen can provide everlasting opportunity for learning.
Leonard Bernstein once said, “ A liberal is a man or a woman or a child who looks forward to a better day, a more tranquil night, and a bright, infinite future.” A liberal is a person that believes in the ideas of liberty and equality and a conservative is one who emphasizes a more traditional lifestyle with church a social hierarchy. Over the years America and its citizens have become more discriminatory towards minorities and people of different values in the community. A more liberal outlook creates an understanding of these minorities and the needs of other individuals in the nation. With the ever changing future the conservative viewpoint becomes less and less relevant to the needs of the country.
Almost everyone attends a school at one time in their life, whether the classroom includes technology or not. Research shows that technology isn’t used as often as one might think. The article, “High Access and Low Use of Technology in High School Classrooms” illustrates the use of technology by stating that only one in ten elementary and middle school teachers are daily users of computers (Cuban, Kirkpatrick, Peck). Most schools now have classrooms that use technology throughout the entire class time and even at home to do homework. Although some people might agree with the use of technology in class, it is more harmful to the students than useful.
On the other hand, some disagree with the claim that gender is a constructed social identity that is dangerous today. First, the counter argument begins by calling gender a necessary way to give humans characteristics that are recognizable. Since, no one can deny the biology of determining the sex, gender is one of the first things that identifies humans. Secondly, people see the duality between men and women to be a natural consequence, because “anyone can clearly see that humanity is split into two categories of individuals with manifestly different clothes, faces, bodies, smiles, movements, interests, and occupations” (Beauvoir 24); these differences should not be ignored. Technology is becoming more and more dominant in our society.Everyday upgrades are being made and new innovations are being discovered. As time goes by, advances in technology will provide more and more avenues for learning by way of the computer. The Internet has opened the doors of the world and unleashed limitless possibilities in research and education. It may be only a matter of time when the classroom is brought online to all children and attending a school classroom outside the home is a thing of the past.
